Just trying to get a new base map together prior to the RR for the van as we are planning on running more boost and more revs with our new mods.

Below is the original map for when we were on 12psi and had a lower rev limit, milder cam etc.

This is my proposed map with scope for upto around 19psi and 7000rpm.
I've tried not to be too aggressive with the advance figures (ideally we will tweak these on the RR)

Basic engine spec is:-

BENROSS 35.7x30 Full fat head 28cc chambers (CR of 8.15:1)
STD Metro Turbo pistons
Total Seal Rings
Avonbar PH2 Cam (timed in at 110deg using the original pre-stretched chain)
MS Ultralight flywheel and lightened backplate
6581 crank
Dynamically balanced bottom end
1:1 sc drops
SC box
X-pin

Anyone able to comment if this is in the right ball park or if this is likely to put a hole in a piston (even with the right fuelling)

Too much advance in the areas just into boost, 25 degrees is known safe as many used locked dizzys set at 25 deg before MJ was available, so pull anything above 100 KPA back to (closer to) 25.

Thanks for that Tom.

Hmm could the excess advance in the original map been adding to a wideband indicated leanout as it came on boost previously?

You can see the torque/power fall off as it transitions.

I doubt it TBH, power dip probably due to it being too lean at that point.

Fair enough. My tuning skills obviously need some more honing.

Attempt number 2:-

I would also put the 500rpm column back and lose one of the ones higher up.

Like this effectively shoving the map across?

Erm kind of, the 500 rpm advance wants to be higher in vac, to act as a crude kind of anti-stall/idle control.

What would you suggest ~20deg or more?

Cranking advance is 8 degrees if I remember correctly.

I'm sure I've got my sub idle 500 rpm column at 22 degrees.

Certainly does exactly as Tom says and picks up the idle if you drop below 1000-1100 revs.

Is it worth using 25 degrees MAX at any point in the rev range above 100 kpa ? That what you meant Tom ?

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Yes pretty much. 25 deg is more or less known to be safe. Don't cry to me if it isn't for you though!

If for example your idle rpm is 1100 the idle advance will be aproximately 18 degrees. To get decent idle control I would set 500rpm to aprox 35 degrees.
Bear in mind though if you like to set your idle speed to 900rpm, I would change the RPM bin from 1100 to 900 rpm and it will be better. As soon as your idle dips below 900 rpm the advance will quickly ramp up and hold your idle at 900rpm

It likes to idle around 1100 so think I will leave that bin there.

Gone with 22 deg at 500rpm for now and may ramp it up a bit more if we have any trouble.
