So here is my plans to turbo 998

It,s going to be allmost dailydriver ,so not for looking max power.

Block 998(std), crank (std),with dished pistons(std) and con rods(std)

Cam? What is best?

Main bearings? what you are using?

Center main strap?

Head 12g940 modified with std valves

Turbo K14 (peugeot 1.9 tdi 115hp.)

Exhaust manifold (made itself not been done yet)

Inlet manifold (made itself or using alloy manifold)

Carb or Injetion (not knowing yet)

IC Somewhere what is fitting under the bonnet:)

Clutch (std) or something better?

Gearbox (std)

So is this the way to go or is it the forget the hole thing:)

All commets and etc. is more than a wellcome:)

My advise is to spend a few days/evenings reading through this section. There is plenty of information to answer all of your questions.

You also need to ideally have a power target as again, it leads to certain requirement within the engine (I.e. Centre main strap)

Most high compression 998 engines had flat top pistons which makes it easy to calculate compression ratio. Do you defiantly have dished pistons? If you do it might be a very early a series or metro low compression unit.

Darlington north east

id also look at not using a std gearbox, have a look at the gt17 turbos and i do believe that someone on here has made taylor made manifolds for them.

x-pin diff?

as for a clutch is it verto or pre verto?

I dont know what type clutch it is :) It is the original 998 clutch.

What is the differences(is this right word?) between verto-pre verto?

Is the turbo too big? i think it is called T2?

Why x-pin diff?

Manifolds are under the work:)

You don't need a gt17 turbo for 80bhp, you'll want a t2 or gt15 ideally...

verto will have a short arm on the wok, pre-verto have a long arm

the T2 turbo is commonlu used on 998 turbos with good results

the standard diff is weak basically, a mate of mine has gone through 2 diff pins in a cammed up 998, a minispares 4pin diff is the way to go.

Main bearings can just be standard replacements,

dont worry about a centre main strap

the MG metro camshaft is very good, if youcnat fine one of those then a standard 1275 camshaft will be good.

clutch wise I say go with what you aready have and worry about it it if it slips.

Injection is great, but it is probably a good idea to get it up and running on a carb unles you have a bit of injection experience.

and as above definatly fit a minispares x pin diff, the rest of the box can stay standard for toe power you are looking at. :)

The clutch is a pre-verto(longer arm)

Turbo k14 is smaller than a garret t3.If i remember right

K14 intake size that i measured is about 35mm(metric) and the exhaust is pretty much same size.

I,m going to use this k14 (allready in garage)

I know that the gearbox weak but it stays for now.

Damn i cant post those pics here......

for the clutch if you want to upgrade an Orange pressure plate will be good.

the K14 looks like it should be a good size, but there is only one way to find out! :)

to post pictures you need to host them somewhere like photobucket, you can then post the img link and they will appear,
if you quote this post you will see the text link with the img part at each end.
