We are going to equip the 998Ti with loads of instrumentation to gain a better understanding of turbo & intercooler performance.

This is a diagram of the various sensor locations:

This is the JB Performance I/O Extender and Logger that we are going to use to monitor and log the data:

More information about Jean's board can be found here:
http://www.jbperf.com/io_extender/index.html

It is also available with the Logger board which has a built in SD card socket, real time clock, accelerometer and facility to locate a GPS module. That is in addition to up to 8 EGT/ADC circuits.

It neatly assembles into a standard extruded case. We are going to assemble the 4 pressure sensors inside the case as well (shown on top just to give a general idea):

This is how it will all connect together:

I'm just waiting for some 1/8W resistors for the ADC circuits and Sturgeo can assemble the circuits. There are 6 or so ADC circuits to assemble to do what we want.

It can also be configured for Launch, Boost & NOS control. Vehicle speed sensors can be accomodated as it has 4 built in VR circuits.

Excellent piece of work by Jean that has overcome a number of constraints we were facing.

nice,

I want to do similar, although i think I can get away with the MS3 and expander as I'm not using the siamese code & extra widebands,

today I've been looking at the possibility of making a turbo RPM sensor,

I've got the I/O x board (not yet fully assembled but that's the story of my life....) and what Jean has done is certainly taking things forward, it's just a shame the rest of my build (the actual Mini) is so far behind the fuel injection and electronics I've been working on.........

CanBus certainly opens things up a bit in the MS world.

So is this a true stand-alone logger? Or does it have to work with / through MS?

That is totally not obvious anywhere in the link?

ah!,

I didnt notice the GPS/accel feature at first, that is swish!

hum, i'm going to have to see if it is possible to get it in a case with the MS now...

A little bit of reading would answer that.

Or lock the thread instead ???

Joe, before this thread gets locked or deleted, Jean's newer boards are 100mm.

The rather antiquated MegaSquirt cases are 4" (101.6mm).

Everything in the developed world is now 100mm (Eurocard is 100x160) so you can put the 100mm ones (very loosely) into a MS box but you can't put the MS boards into a standard 100mm box.

No offence intended to the MegaSquirt community but your choice of retaining a 4" profile is history :)

The information on the web page is not complete and somewhat out of date. I need to expand on it and correct a few things. There is a lot more information on my forum.

The intent is to be able to have this as either a standalone data logger and as an extension to an MS2/Extra or MS3 ECU. At the moment the standalone part is missing some code to use the SD card so it would require using a laptop to record the data but it can be done without being connected to an MS ECU.

Jean,

I was just asking because I feel there is a huge gap in the market for a 'decent' low cost data logger, with high-speed input capability. If you are trying to sell this to anyone outside of the MS community, it wasn't at all obvious what it is, or could potentially do.

Something that can monitor and log all that stuff Paul has in his diagram above would certainly have a place in mine and any car I tinker with - no matter what the engine management system is.

Great stuff - I really like it. *smiley*

I like this idea too, especially if it is a stand alone product

Yep looks pretty good to me. Plenty of inputs.

Have you considered a 3rd Wideband downstream of the turbo Paul? If so any reason for not including one apart from cost?

Yes John, it is actually on the second diagram.

It is a bit of an expense when you already have two. Might be good to use to autotune the VE map though. Then just use the main two to set the injection timing.

Finally got around to putting this together.

It's going on the Miglia with the MS3 rather than the new 998.

We are monitoring:

Ambient air temp ( at air cleaner)
Air temp between turbo and IC
Air temp dopwnstream IC
MAT (ECU)
Turbine inlet temp (ThermoCouple)

Ambient pressure (ECU)
Pressure between turbo and IC
Pressure between IC and TB
MAP (ECU)
Turbine inlet pressure

Outer cylinder EGT (TC)
Inner cylinder EGT (TC)

Inner cylinder AFR
Outer cylinder AFR
Common AFR

We should have enough data there to understand whats going on :)

I'm afraid not. It was abandoned along with the ex-Miglia project.

However, Sturgeo has been working on a new setup for the 1293 turbo engine in his road car. He's got the MS3 talking via CAN to an arduino, designed his own board for the additional I/O and using a tablet for a dash.

I'll update when we have something working, but don't hold your breath.
