Hi Tony. It's from the filter housing. Cheers, im surprised its that high just driving round town. With no cooler i run about 80c town and 90-100c motorway depending on outside temp. The most i think is 120c after long toe down. Are you also running a water cooled turbo or sump guard? In answer to your question i would certainly be adding a cooler. -MINI CLUBMAN 1380 TURBO- |

My car runs about the same temp as T3TOne's post. 80 town rural driving 90-100 motorway as sustained high revs I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I have fitted an oil stat to keep my temps up for night driving and see around 80 to 110 degrees swing depening on the ambient temp and driving conditions. I f I am sat in town traffic the 13 row cooler struggles to keep the temp down and this could explain where my oil is going as its not burning it but going through a fair bit. I did suspect it e=was boiling it off and now it is partialy confirmed. Own the day

I have never heard of engine oil evaporating to the extent that you need to keep topping it up. You would end up with a sump full of sludge. |

We had the same issue with our Maestro turbo, the oil we were putting in that was a fully sinthetic but it kept breaking down. Changing the type of oil we used helped but for the life of me I cant remeber what we used. On 10th Sep, 2010 metroturbo said:

this is a relief to me. my tuned mpi has got as high as 100 degrees on a motorway run in the heat. was thinking about a small oil caller. from what i have read i dont need one really. before tuning it the oil temp gauge didnt move, neither has it on the other standard mpis that i have owned |

I had an MPI and when I ran it on 15/40 diesel oil temp gauge never moved. Switched to 20/50 and it used to get red hot! If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |
