Overpriced and full of muppets!! Not strictly true...... 1) Get a quote for the Mini part you desire from a auto factors within (I think) 15 miles of your Halfords store of choice. Then phone up Halfords and ask them to price-match. 95% of times they will do it, so you get the part you want close to home, and pay a good price. In addition you also usually get a better quality part from Halfords than you do from your cheapo motor factors as Halfords have a reputation to uphold and so will not usually chance selling lesser quality components. If you look a lot of their stuff is good brands e.g. Quinton Hazell, Ferodo, etc. I was in uni at Loughborough, we used to pull this scam all the time, using a place called "Panjiatani Motor Spares" in Leicester. 2) You also get a outstanding returns policy from Halfords. The reason being this- the spotty young lad or bored disinterested little bird plastered in polyfilla doesn't give a toss what you are bringing back, or whether it is broken or not. It is no money out of their wage packet if they accept your return and give you a new one. So that is what you get. Try the same thing at your local motor factors and the gaffer will sense the potential lightening of his wallet and will fuck you off in no uncertain terms. 3) They are also not always as expensive as you think. A short while ago I fell out with my local factor as he sent me out on a van a set of brake pads for a Peugeot 106 1.1 petrol (nothing special I hear you say) and then invoiced me over ?30 for them, at TRADE price. I had a few words which ended with "I can get them cheaper at f&^*^ng halfords than that" to which he replied "well f%&k off to Halfords then", so I did, got them to quote and lets just say that I got a refund and a grovelling letter from the factor manager when he reviewed how much I have spent there in the last 6 months. They are not always the rip off you think. 4) Where else is open on a Sunday afternoon when you are in the shit and need something asap? OK you might pay a bit more but its better than walking to work on monday morning.....and we have all been there. 5) Last but not least.............they have an outstanding policy of swapping car batteries for a new one if you take back one with a long guarantee and its knackered. Useful for when you find one on a trip to the local tip I find. As a qualifier I would say that I do not generally use Halfords if possible, but they do have their uses and if you know how to play the system a bit you do OK out of them.

I used to work for them too, so if you're up North, call the Workington store as they should be used to my Mini-related bodgery !

Im a duty manager at Halfords now and i agree not many of the ppl there know much about anything other than how to dress emo or skive through the back, but if you get some one in the know, we can get almost any part you require.

I don't have a prob with them, fairly local to me cheap for some things. It's just the fact that you have to wade through all the chav-wagons and rice to get to the front door. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:
