It seems that the DIYAUTOTUNE DIYPNP devices could be modified to work in an A Series car and provide a small form factor similar to what Jean was discussing a few months back:

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/diypnp-c-75.html

They have several versions and it seems one could be found with the right components. It appears they are also selling Jean's board as an upgrade:

My own project to convert an older car to an MPi based engine has been delayed by a transmission swap in our Traveller to get it back on the road as it is not yet ready for the MPi engine.

I haven't checked what connectors they have available now but if they do have the right one then it would work.

But if they don't have the correct one yet it won't be easier to use than the regular V3.0 board version. You'll still have to find the correct connector for your MPi engine or change your car connector to fit the DIYPNP you chose.

And I have plans to do another version which wouldn't use the sealed case I mentioned before since this adds some constraints. This one may come at a later time but the new one I want to do would have 2 WBO2 controllers on the board and would also be based on the Microsquirt module. It would either be a standalone ECU or could be used in tandem with my I/O Extender in the same case.

I'll have details in the coming week. I'm moving to another city this weekend but I'm going to get on this right after the move.

Look forward to the update Jean, thanks for posting that.

I will probbably never turbo inject a car, but I have two engines waiting for some Msquirt variation:

If I had more time and would just make some sort of ECU decision I would probably have one of these in the Traveller by now.

My intention is not extra power, just something reliable and controllable.

on a lark I sent an inquiry to DIYAUTOTUNE and received this:

Hello Terry,

Yes, that does sound like the Rover 36-1-1-1-1. I believe there's a couple cars running that on MS2.

That MAP sensor looks like it could be used if you can find out what voltage it puts out at what pressure. The IAC would work with a MS2 but not a Microsquirt. We've used a similar design on Toyotas successfully.

The V3.0.3 MS2/Extra code can run the two injectors in a semi-sequential fashion to avoid charge robbing. If you go with that approach, you'd just take an off the shelf Microsquirt and load it with the latest Extra code alpha version (which is actually pretty stable at this point).
You'd just set the code up for semi-sequential Siamese mode. This page covers that code mod:

Thanks,

At least they sent me to the source...

The only thing I would disagree with DIYautotune is where they say "You'd just set the code up for semi-sequential Siamese mode".....

The benefit of all Jean's work is to be able to use fully sequential in siamese mode with different timings on inners and outers.

By the looks of your photos they are MPI based engines (from the position of the oil filters) so you already have the required cam sensors - the rest of us have had to fabricate one !!!

The only question would be that if they do have a box with the Rover connector, whether the cam signal would be wired up right (especially as the MPI sensor is VR and those of us using basic MS2s are using Hall or opto switches).

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
