So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I can see why this info would be interesting, but couldn't this information be calculated out from the static CR/boost? What other info could this provide that would be of use?
What kind of piston speed does 7500rpm equate to ( on a standard stroke 1275, say)? I ask as, 10 years ago, when investigating chamber pressures we encountered a problem in getting sensors that could react quickly enough to give an accurate reading. 10 years is a long time, but to be able to provide this, at a reasonable price would be pretty impressive!

Monitoring cylinder pressures should show when you are close to or beyond MBT, and whether in knock or not.

To be honest, at $980, I would have to think long and hard about parting with my cash. I think I would be happier tunning safe and perhaps loosing a few hp in the way.

No one with any sort of programable Management system is going to be spending that much time and money to tune their engine to perfection(unless you are in some sort of motor sport or just rich), and are willing to accept some loss of either drivability, functionality or hp compared to OEM systems, where they tend to spend thousands on engine calibration and software/ hardware technology.

If you are a tuning shop on the other hand, equipment like this could provide another level of data to help zero in on an optimal configuration. it is only one value, and on its own is useless without other information such as crank and spark angle.

Its a bit like EGT, you don't need it to tune an engine, but it would give another level to confirm you are in the 'zone' as such.

Pretty cool

But what about the modern coil systems that can detect missfires and detonation via a regular spark plug ?

Surely that is a more viable option with a coil that can work it ?

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Ion sensing, yes, I posted something on here about this some time ago
