I'm still weary of crank taper damage on the RTS clutches. I rember seeing Matty having a hard time getting his flywheel of the crank and the taper not being great afterwartds.

not sure what you could do to protect the crank taper ![]() one of the inserts into the flywheel the taper, did it happen slowly or could you notice it going? i would have thought that much movement would stop the clutch from disengaging, never mind the crank loving up the block Yes i moved to the darkside |

At least with the oil fed thrusts it's some protection, not sure what you could do to protect the crank taper ![]() I THINK ive got to the bottom of the taper problems. My damper pulley bolt came loose causing excessive vibration, so much so it has cracked the damper puller along the keyway and fucked my spacer I made up that goes over the crank. Ive now replaced the damper pulley and im now using the minispares extended cap head bolt. Fingers crossed it'll be ok now. ![]() Colin has had TurboHarry fit some brass brushes in his hubs, incase of any vibration. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fusion-Fabri..._homepage_panel

Yep, I went for the bronze bush in the taper to limit the damage to the crank, but does not mean that the bronze bush wont get damaged. I think balance needs to be as close to perfect as you can get, and a good condition damper, but, it will still fret on high rpm engines I think. And im not convinced about lapping in the taper being such a good thing ![]() On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

I'm laping with fine paste all my flywheels, then a good hamer push with a bronze two time on the flywheel bolt, a bit barbare but untill now it's working, you feel on the torque wrench that this make a big difference. |
