For refference, for anyone looking for standard turbo piston rings and the options.

Here is a new set of Total Seal piston rings for the Metro Turbo Piston. These also fit the Cooper S 19320 Hepolite piston and likely others.

The rings measure 1/16", 1/16", 5/32". That is roughly 1.5mm, 1.5mm, 4mm.

The top ring is a conventional type ring.

The middle ring is a 'gapless' ring. Its construction is in two parts. There is the main part of the ring which is similar to the conventional ring with a gap, but it has a recess on its bottom face in which an additional 'rail' sits. This additional rail is similar to the rails used on three part oil scraper rings. Its gap is offset to the main part of the ring by 180 degrees, thus almost all but removing the gap in the second ring to blowby.

The bottom ring or oil scraper ring is a conventional three part oil scraper ring.

These rings are available in the UK from http://www.performanceunlimited.co.uk at a cost of roughly £90 (pricey for most). They are not off the shelf, but order in from the US, with an aproximate 1 to 2 week delivery.

When I rang performance unlimited they where very helpful. They order on a Friday and if it's in stock they get it on the next Monday, if they are not then it's the week after generally. Our rings cost £97.20 with vat. They'll be going in a low mileage, good condition block which has had a light hone.

Can have one if you want one Carl, I have loads. Order before the last one, there was two stickers in the packet and then two inside the box WITH a segment of sugar rock. I was dissapointed this last order as the segment of rock wasn't there :(

You can see the segment of sugar rock in this pic. Those were the rings I had to buy for the 1400, as no one else made them for the 74mm Omegas

You clearly do not understand how you would feel when you opened up a box that contains engine parts to find a sweet that has the manufacturers name all the way through it, considering they have come all the way from the US!!

Its just a sweet, but its more than a sweet.

Mainly because they are new rings for standard metro turbo pistons (they have been NLA for a while).

You need to rotate the rings so that the gaps are all around 1/3 of the diameter of the piston apart.

Try one of the rings in a bore (of the piston) to check the gap.

The second ring is wrong. I suggest you look at the instructions again.

Interestingly, I always do this. But when I popped the pistons out of the TT engine the other week, all the gaps were lined up.

It's difficult to tell from the picture but it looks like you have the gapless part of the 2nd ring upside down as its supposed to fit inside the main ring and close the loop. (making it gapless) *surprised*

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

hi john

the second ring(brown one) has a step in it which i put facing down, thats what i understood by the instructions. then i put the other ring that came with it "under" it so it sits against that step.

thats how i understood the instrustion, but please correct me if im wrong.

first time fitting piston rings so just want to make sure all is right.

in this picture you can see the "step" im taking about on the brown ring, and i put that other ring same side as the step. and faced the step down.

Yep that sounds right but you need to rotate the ring that sits on the grove by 180 degrees so that the second ring becomes gapless.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
