I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Just found this old post ref my Davrian.

For anybody that is interested the car is running very well.
Over the winter I had the engine out and did a few jobs since the original clutch was not man enough.
From memory they were:
Grey clutch, ARP bolts, Kent 266 (originally a 643), New head with 36mm/31mm valves and larger ports, modified inlet manifold to improve idle air distribution, larger charge cooler pump and turbo oil pump.
Mapping needed a fair amount of change especially at low speed.
Idle MAP value as expected dropped to about 30kPa from 55kPa due to the much reduced overlap.
Needed loads more transient fuel as well - don't forget I have a fairly primitive (by current standards) throttle body injection with maximum wall wetting ability.
One interesting behaviour I found was that I now had some knock at around 3000-3500 on boost. It needed about 4degrees of retard in that area to stop it. I put that down to the reduced internal EGR from the 266 cam but maybe wrong.

Anyway it runs really well. Currently at 0.9bar boost and my logger FWIW shows a maximum of around 102kW (wheel power calculated from acceleration and vehicle mass). I must put it on a Rolling road.

I might upgrade later to the new siamesed code out of interest and reduce the wall wetting.

There are some in the 'cars' section of this website and here:

Interior has been updated a bit but otherwise similar.

looks great, the only thing id be tempted to do, is customise the front lights, do away with the square type and fabricate some round ones with a clear cover ala series 1 e-type

just my taste though

in fact, just fitting the covers would make a good difference, although i have heard they drastically reduce the headlight performance

Yes I'd thought about light covers.
May be a future addition.
It doesn't go out at night so not too worried about light performance.

It has been a while but thought I would show some updates
Headlamps covers done and some interior mods.
Engine has had a different turbo (IHI) with an external wastegate and a SCCR gearbox with MED 0.95:1 (from memory) roller drops

Wow. That’s gorgeous!

How did you make the covers?
Plan to go to any mini shows this year? Mk1 action day has plenty of kit cars.
