Hi to all you forced induction fans, I don't have a turbo but I do have an M45 Eaton Supercharger on an A series (A+) MG Metro Turbo block with a K100 8v (BMW motorbike twincam) head.
I recently joined the EFi Mini forum because the K100 conversion is very popular there, so now I have joined the Turbo Mini forum too because my project engine seems to 'fall between two stools'.
Is there a forum especially for a supercharged K100 twincam A series Mini engine? *smiley*

The engine is fitted to my old Allegro 1300 series 3, it's not at all very well so ask for help to fix it in another post, cheers, Laurence.

Hi & thanks for the welcome, it feels like I just got home at last *happy*
Yes my intentions were to have it as a sleeper but it's dormant at the moment.
I've ordered an Mpi 52mm throttle body to make it a suck thru & delete the bike (Bing) throttle bodies which are blow thru because it either blows the ducting hoses off or splits the plenum when it's revved to 6 or 7,000rpm & then shut the throttle!

Stick with blow through with an intercooler in there. Sounds like you need a BOV of some sort. There are a couple of guys on this forum who have a blow through charger setup who could probably help you out.

sounds like you need a recirculating dump valve in there. If you snap the throttle shut with the charger still spinning at 6k, it's still blasting air into the plenum.

Suck through is a massive step backwards when you've got as far as you have.

Personaly, in this situation I would go with the 'suck through' instalation, after all, thats how BMW and all other modern supercharged engines work. Its all to do with the fact that the supercharger is a posative displacement compressor and its fixed to the crank shaft, all be it with a belt. with a blow through set up at 6000rpm when the throttle is snapped shut, the supercharger is still moving ALL the air an it has to go some where. While you can fit a dump valve, its a mighty big one and noisey as a downside. Not that it doesnt work, It's my opinion, that it is not the way to go about it, but then, its not my engine, and I can only give advice without any practical experience.

There still needs to be an bypass valve as the charger still produces a riased engine vacuum and idle will be high.

The only real problem with going for a 'suck through' system is that all the boost pipes and intercooler need to be rigid to prevent them collapsing under vacuum.

Laurence, welcome to Turbo Minis :)

Hi,
Yes I'll be converting to suck thru soon, but it's injection not carb so it'll only be sucking air through the throttle body a la Bini Cooper S. Someone has suggested having a throttle body before the supercharger & throttle body/bodies after the supercharger, if that's good I'll do it but if having just a suck thru is sufficient I'll do that....
