I took the 998 EFi Turbo out for a few runs today. Just to blow the cobwebs off and get some motivation to do work on some of the other cars.

First couple of runs were OK. Went Maplins at lunchtime to get some parts for the Miglia and it was running lean under boost.

Checked the fuel pressure when we got back and it was 0.5 bar lower than it should be. So wound it back up and it's boosting fine. A bit lean, but then it is cold again.

So my cheap Ebay FPR is NFG.

I'm looking for an alternative. Loads for £25 like mine on Ebay, but everything else seems to be about £100.

I've got an adjustable Sytec one for the Miglia and will probably get another the same:

Any other suggestions?

Are these SARD ones worth the money?

The DON uses one very similar to that posted by Joe. We've had no problem with it, other than the cheapo gauge I put on the side crapping out and reading 4 bar all the time regardless of the pump on or off.

This is a rising rate (1:1.4) regulator. I don't think it's a good idea to use this unless you know that your fuel pump will provide enough fuel at the increased pressure and that injectors will be able to take it.

the fse and sard ones are great, i assume yours is an e-bay one with 4 bolts holding 2 polished / anodised halfs together with a gauge? these do work ish, get shite with time, and leak down on shutdown, that is to say you need a higher flowrate pump to keep the same pressure with one of these regulators that you would a decent brand.

they sytec ones just look like fse ones with a fancier top.and i have it in my head there the same company anyways..

the cheap regulators will also highlight a fuel supply problem sooner than a good regulator cause they leak down, bear that in mind :)

Yes, the one I have is one of those with 4 bolts and the polished halves.

It has not been consistant over the last 6 months really.

I think that this may be the one then:

Why do you need an adjustable regulator? whats wrong with a fixed value that you will never ever have the itch to adjust it, lol Adjustable regulators just add more complexity where its not strictly necessary *happy*

I have a Weber Alpha 2.5bar one, brand new never been used if any one wants one. They also do the 3bar and 3.5bar. Fit and forget, and about £70 from the usualy suspects.

Colin, you have a very good point.

But I'm still developing the injection and would like the option of seeing the affect of winding up the pressure.

Ive took plenty of those SARD ones off cars. Total piles of dung. One minute they work, the next fuel pressure is all over the place or sky high.

Fit only for the bin IMO.

What sort of fitment do you need ?

Really...pretty much any efi regulator will do. Steal an OE off a car if you can make it fit etc. 2wd Cossie ones are adjustable, and have simple hose tails I think.

Well, I've just fitted one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FSE-ADJUSTABLE-FUEL-...=item439b62e60c

I seem to be getting about 10% more fuel than I did on the rolling road, with no other changes, so I think the old one was a load of tat. Beware.

Bit hard to read gauges though when you get to 4k and the tyres break free *oh well*

EDIT: Actually similar AFRs to the second rolling road, but it certainly feels better.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I also have a cheap one thats going to be replaced.

Here's question, bear in mind its for the NA c20xe, what fuel pressure should i go with? its on standard bosch cream injectors.

I had it set at 3bar?

But i'm guessing its not really important and 2.5bar would keep it more than happy? if so, colin, want to get rid of that one you have?

I'm just going to get a fixed one to be honest. No messing then!

3 bar base is about right usually.

i seem to remember reading that going down toward 2 bar screws the spray up.

I'd stick with 3 bar. That's what the injectors are designed for.

Any less and you might get a bit of dribble.

Was thinking about the pressures myself earlier as ive just fitted a new pump to my mpi. I run the injectors at 2 bar (as originally set by Stuart Gurr) and they sit pre charger so dont experience boost pressure. The Haynes BOL says the standard fuel pressure for the mpi is 1 to 1.3 bar! So wouldnt that mean that the spray would be ok on these injectors down to 1.0 bar?
