Hi Guy's,

Thinking about the probs with the siamise port seqential injection I wonderd if modding an A series head for direct injection would be possible, is there space? There was the leyland mini diesel tractor it had glow plugs and of corse the injectors inplace in the a series modified head.

I did a quick Google to see what can be got in the way of GDI injectors, and find that at the moment thers not much choice.

I was hoping to find somthing the size of a diesel glowplug somthing small the could be screwd into the head perhaps next to the spark plug?

many car manufacturers are now useing GDI tecnology , some with injectors verticaly above the piston some injecting via the side of the head just ande the intake ports.

I then read that most GDI units are useing 15 to 35 bar of fule pressure, tha obviously needs a dedicated HP fuel pump.
second problem tou could be resolved by some of the electronic gurus on here i'am sure! is the GDI units are being powerd by 60+volts DC.

If GDI was posible on the A series then that would shurely slove the injection problems of the siamese port injection. altho I do understand thet that for some may be molesting the A series look/heratige.

I know this if posible would be a lot of hassle, but so is getting the sequential injection going properly.

what do you guy's think? feel free to shoot me down if This is a silly idea!

Cheers, Andrew

sounds lile a blimmen good idea .

There are no GDI aftermarket ECU and hardware for a reason. It would be extremely expensive to develop.

It would be much more cost effective to simple develop a twin cam 16 valve head.

If you want to do fuel injection on a 5-port head there is a solution that is available NOW. As for being a hassle, what you propose is not even on the same planet in terms of complexity. It's nice to dream but...

I guess the best way to do it would be get a scrap GDI car, rip off the injection system, pumps, injectors, ecu, the lot, and then stick it on a mini. Then work out how to map it.

I think I would save myself the hassel and buy a 7 port or use the megasquirt code.

I did think it would be a lot of hassle to build onto an A series head.

I know the misubishi runs a second control box for the injectors, an then again the mitsu GDI engins are proving to be a bit un reliable mainly due to dogy HP fuel pumps and throttle bodies getting mucky.

possibly as more manufactureres start useing GDI technologie diferent typs of injector will become availeble, hopfuly the method of fireing these injectors wil becom more standard and manufaturers of systems sutch as MS will pick up onthis and produce a box of trics to fire them.

GDI is nothing new the early "Gullwing mercedes" (I forget its name...) used GDI tecnologie back in the 60's.

as far as I can see all it would take is a small ennough injector that could be fitted to the A series head and a box of tricks to up the voltage to fire them from perhaps a MS system getting a HP fuel pump and plumbing going would be resenobly easy for most of us.

I wil try to get an engine wireing diagram for a GDI engine just to see how diferent it is to a normal injection system

anyway it was just a thought, thanks for the response's

Cheers, Andrew
