Sounds good to me. You get a BDD needle in the carb re-build kits so that'll save £6!

The other problem you might have is that the throttle connections on the N/A carb foul the turbo inlet. The MG inlet or other alloy ones will make fitment easier.

I know this is a really old thread, but would you be better off using a 1275 head and pocketing the block rather than a 12G295? Seeing as there are getting quite rare so more expensive.

Also instead of using a spi tank could you just get an electronic fuel pump? That would work out cheaper if you already had a tank.

You would have to have the chambers on the 1275 head opened out, so if your not doing it yourself then by the time youve paid for the head mod and the block machining it would prob be cheaper to get a standard 295 head and bolt it straight on.

one day boost will be mine!

Heads :

4 options :

12G940
12G295
12G202
Standart 998 head

Standart 998 is crap, see Alpa's thread below
(need to edit link)

12G295 are sought after in standart form as the chamber volume will give a little over 9/1 on 998 flat top pistons.
Thickness need to be checked, it should be 76 mm otherwise it has been skimmed and chamber volume is down.
Edit : 12G295 is 2 3/4" or 69.85mm

12G940 could need pocketing of the block depending on valve lift.
With 998 flat top pistons, CR is too high for turbo application, either switch to dished pistons or enlarge head or both.

12G202 is basically a bigger valve version of standart 998.
It's main advantages are it's very cheap and availability is better than the 12G295.
Chambers will do with some enlarging à la Vizard.

When modding a head, never assume chamber volume, measure it !

On every head you plan modding, start grinding in the area between the valves to search for cracks.

The 12G295 is 2 3/4" or 69.85mm before skimming.

In case it's of use to anyone else, if you're using the standard A+ head (CAM4810) the BDD needle mentioned in the original post is too rich on boost/under load and I've found it too lean on light throttle.

The BDL needle seems to be a very good starting point. A little lean still on light throttle but almost perfect under load maybe just a touch rich.

Once I get mine on the rolling road, I'll update the thread with what's found.
