I'm almost positive it's a small bore unit, hopefully someone can shed some light on it?

12A497

It has a tag riveted to the block that says 1000 though... Any ideas?

Oh, and that's the block casting. I can't tell though. I've been looking around and I see 1275 here, and 998 there, and then my computer freaks out and kicks me off the net, so I think it's confused too.

Hi!

Yes, 12A497 is a smalbore.

Bigbore (1275cc) would be 12G1279 (thick flange) or 12G949 (early thin flange solid wall block, Austin 1300). Cooper 'S' engines have a number begining with 'AEG'.

Hope this is of some help :)

Regards,
Jan

A little. I'm almost positive it's a 998. Just a little more checking, an help from our friendly turbomini forum peoples and alls good.
