Ordered a load of -6 fittings and hose on Sunday.

All the fittings and hoses to tie the fuel system together. Over £400 *surprised*

One part was out of stock, so they substitued a better part at the same price.

Arrived today after trying to deliver yesterday. Good quality stuff.

I'm sure that once I've done all 26 hose ends, I'll be an expert.

Its not too bad, the best tip I know is when cutting, wrap tightly with tape, hold it in the vice, then cut it with a 1mm cutting disc in the angle grinder.

Yep you will,

actually its not bad stuff to work with, just don't ram the stainless braid under your thumb nail like I did *angry*

I was just thinking that cutting the hose is going to be the difficult bit.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm still wincing at the thought of ramming the braid under your thumb nail *surprised*

lol, yes it was not the most enjoyable experience...

I used a dremel with a cut off disc for most of mine, its not ideal though as you cant get the disc perpendicular to the hose so end up retrimming after its cut, but using a disc is deffo the way to go.

Like tom, I also cut with a 1mm cutting disk. When I wrap with tape, I find masking tape works better than insulating tape, as it does not stetch when getting warm.

When I have cut mine I have used a sharp chisel and a hammer. I got this tip from someone doing racecars a lot, and it works nicely. Nice clean cut with one punch. I have used it on everything from -12 to -4.

I assume the braided oil pipe that is sold is made from 'dash' size fittings but what size? This I mean:
http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=...34398&title=OIL FILTER BRAIDED OIL FE...

Could a similar size be used for oil cooler pipes to give a neater look than the usual braided stuff?

All 'dash' fittings are UNF thread.

-6 is 9/16" UNF thread for example.

You just need to get the appropriate adaptors

The dash number also relates roughly to the hose size in 16th's- so -6 hose = 6/16=3/8 bore hose.

OK - makes sense.

The banjo oil pipe fitting in most A engines is 5/8" UNF so would reducing the size to -6 be acceptable?

Or would you need to adapt up in size to -8?

I presume it comes down to the effective bore and hence flow capacity.
But how to determine this is the tricky bit!

If you are using -6 for fuel then my first guess would be that -8 will be needed for oil. But what size is the MS pipe I linked to I wonder?

The only way to find out about the MS pipe is to get one measured.

-6 may be a bit small for the oil supply. My -6 hose is actually around 8mm bore.

Chart I pinched of the web:

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."
