Well over the last few months I have been deliberating about what route to go with My Mk1, the way I seen it was that I had a few options open to me,
1: Restore it to original (Not really my style)
2: Make it a Cooper S replica ( I think its been done to death)
3: Make and Ex Works Replica of it ( again done a bit and not really my style)

SO I settled on
4: This Option is to make what is know in some parts as a Tin top road/racer. What this will mean is, the car is going to get any FIA trimmings such as role cage, fire extinguisher, 4 point Harness, and Race seat, but still remain road legal. In A nut shell a Road Legal Historic Racer.

The Idea Harks back to the way people yous to go Racing. They would soup up there road car with a bigger engine better brakes, soft compound tires wider wheels and fit some shape of a role cage. Then drive to the circuit take out there carpets and back seats, get the tools and jack from the boot and go out on the track racing. Put all there bits back in the car and get toe home *tongue*

I think this is fantastic and really appeals to me, it also means the car is great for track days and going to shows.

So what is the spec going to be,

Well for now it stands at

Engine: 1480cc
Block bored to 74mm
Some cast Omegas
A Steel 86mm stroke crank
Some Cooper S Rods
A KAD alloy flywheel and back plate
Kent 310 cam
Swift Tune Alloy Vernor timing chain
HRE Fast Road/Race head
Weber 45 DCOE on Custom Manifold
Maniflow stage 3 LCB and Playmini 3" back box
Mini Spares Clubman Straight cut box
Cross pin diff with 4.1:1 Crown Wheel and Pinion
Alloy 2 Core Radiator

Suspension:
1.5 Deg fixed bottom arms
Adjustable Tie Bars
Adjustable Camber brackets
Standard cones on the rear and GAZ coil overs on the front

Brakes:
Cooper S 7.5" on the front and some Mini Fins on the Rear
Good Ridge braided hoses all round

Fuel:
7 Gallon Tank
Facsit Red top pump
Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator

Wheels:
10" X 6 Starmags
A032 Tires

Safety Stuff:
4/6 Point role cage
FIA seat
FIA Harness
FIA Fire Extinguisher

I have 90% of the bits collected or near enough, I have cut back some other projects so I hope to get this on the boil over the winter and have it ready for early next year.

I will get some Pic up tomorrow of the parts I have collected so far,

TBH James I could do with Employing someone like your self full time just to help me finish at least one of my projects,

My biggest single killer is I have way more Ideas/ projects than I have either time or Money for,

Its the old story when your a Young Fella you have all the ideas, all the time and no money,
When your an adult you have all the money and all the Ideas but no Time,

And when your an Ould fella you have all the Money all the Ideas and all the money but your to Fucked to Implement them,

I suppose if I spent less time here talking about these projects and more time actually doing them I would be on to a winner lol

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

Sounds good. Same principle that I'm working to - fast road mini that will still be relativly competitive on the track and strip.

4.1 on 10's.

That'll make it scream. Great for strip or hill climb.

HRE - any info on who this is ?

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

4.1 on 10s is great with 1380 but with that long stroke youll break the crank, sounds a great project though

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Exactly what I mean Paul, 8k wont be enough. Ive seen a 40B 86 crank break because of a 4.1 diff on 10s

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

8k on a 4.1 and 10s is 108mph. Why wouldn't that be enough?

Because its not enough, I run a 4.1 on 10s and its not enough

I seriously doubt it!

FD is a very subjective thing. Just because you think it is, doesn't necessarily make it so

Not saying my word is the be all end all, but I do know from experience. Besides a 1480 will have enough torque to pull a 3.7 or 3.9 better

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I'm changing the diff in my racer this winter from a 3.9 to a 4.1...... I never rev more than 7500 at the moment on the fastest track.

I agree Vegard I have driven and raced in cars with both 3.9's and 4.1, on the track I have always felt the 3.9 was to long legged and on the road never noticed the difference between 3.9 and 4.1 one as I rarely go over 60 on the road.

Gareth Its great to see you are still watching this I hope I am doing your Mk1 justice.

Paul I see what your saying but I am 100% sure I will not be rev this motor near 8k let alone over it
