Hi there before i turbo my mini i wanted to get a fair shair of power out of it first,

I'm looking to get more power out of my standard 998, i was just reading up and deciding to maybe start off with twin carbs, 1275/cooper head? and a decent exhaust manifold, then change the cam. what would be a decent cam to put into my 998?

can anyone see anything wrong with this?
any suggestions on cam? head?
thankyou

I would say as a start that ditch the twin carb plan and fit a decent HIF, plenty enough for a tuned 998. The head you want is a 12G295 (998 cooper and other) or a standard 12G940 (standard 1275), fopr this you will need to pocket the block (if you don't know search)

Cam depends on what you want, a standard MG metro cam works well, but there are plenty to choose from depending on what you are looking for.

spec of my old 998 was as follows:

12g940 head, pocketed block, pockets went out to the fire ring and down to 1mm above where the top ring reached in the bore.

mg camshaft
HIF44 (probably too big)
dizzy advance stopps filed back to give an extra 10 degrees at the top end and it destroyed stage one 1275's for fun on the local dual carrageways. really enjoyed driving that engine actually :( and really should have got it on a set of rollers. needed to be ran on super unleaded too or it pinked its brains out.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

thanks for the replies, so twin carbs would be a bad option, what hif would you recomend?
i was going for something with a little bit of guts to gradualy work up to the turbo,
as im really interested to go down that route on my 998 after a year or so of hourding parts.
this is my daily drive aswell.
and the exhaust system i was going to go for was maniflow with the LCB and all that.

thanks for the help guys much appreciated!

I'd use the HIF44, as even if you cant get a turbo one, when you do turbo the lump, then you can convert it into a turbo carb.

Same question, different setup :

The 998 will be turboed in a few months withe a 12G295 however, for the time being, is it interresting fitting 1.5 rockers on my standart head and cam, obviously with a stage 1 kit ?

I didn't find a definite answer through search button (others don't seem to use standart cam)

Thanks in advance.

All standart A+ 998 appart from stage 1 kit.

I will not pocket the block as I have a 12G295 for it when it's turboed.

What I have red is that 1.5 rockers and cams from MG Metro on up are no good on a 998.

Is a 1.5 rockers / standart cam a worthwile setup on a N/A 998 ?

And I will stay with the standart cam.

what 1.5 rockers you planing on trying?

i only ask as the roller/tipped rockers available generically are spaced for large bore heads and are not a straight bolt on option

It's videly known that 1.5 rockers don't work too well on small bores unless a very known/developed combo.

All right then, I'll stay with what is already on the engine ...
