Below is a pic of an MPi tank. As i understand, the SPi are exactly the same...

One thing to note, It seems to have a shorter filler neck - when installed into an older mini, the neck is around 6mm pround of the body/tank seal - making fitting a 'flippy' petrol cap very difficult!

Also, the tank might be 'loose' even when the securing strap is tightened right up. Clearly, the tank is a tiny bit smaller than the non efi tank. I just cut my tank strap, overlapped the pieces by 1" and welded it back together. Worked a treat.

I hope you don't mind me asking in a how to section but do people use two spade connectors to plug into the pump or do they source a plug from somewhere? :)

a matching connector can be found in many cars, most use it at the screen washer pump

Or you can use two standard 6mm female shrouded spades as I did on mine.

Thanks guys, I have been held back with things so I haven't thought any more about this. I have insulated spades on at the moment, does anyone know the current draw by the pump?

hi

this has been really useful but i have one question regarding the oil pressure switch, would the standard oil pressure switch work in this application or would an oil pressure switch that operated at say 20 psi and under be better? if so does anyone know where i can obtain one.
cheers luke

shane in that diagram relay No1 is not needed. if you put the fuzed 12v feed straight into pin 30 on relay No2 it would function the exact same :)

I know if it is used just for the pump it only requires one relay, but was using the n/o and n/c contacts for other things.

The relay means that you can supply the pump with a good power source (e.g. direct from the battery), but have it switched on/off by the ignition or oil preasure switch etc. Running it direct from the fusebox/loom etc you run the risk of over loading the circuit, blowing fuses, melting wires etc etc

The point of using the oil pressure is so that if you have an accident, the likelihood is that the engine will stop and hence the oil pressure will drop and the fuel pump will stop. This can be done in other ways, drive it of an ecu like the megasquirt, this stops the pump if the engine stops or possibly run it through an inertia switch. Or do all three.
