Hey guys, just a quick one as I'm sure someone will know the answer to this.

In the Megasquirt wiring diagrams, it shows a 25uF capacitor connected to the live input on the EDIS coil with the other side running to earth - I'm assuming this is a coil suppressor. My question is, what would happen if I tried to run without this suppressor and is it absolutely necessary?

Second question, if it is absolutely necessary, where would my best place be to get one at VERY short notice?!

Cheers,
Mark.

You can probably get away without it, its purpose is to smooth the supply voltage to the coil.

As for where to get one, have a look around your local scrappy and you should be able to find one.

Cheers for that guys, I'll give it a go without to get the car running for now and I'll get one ordered just to be on the safe side.

I've been running my Megasquirt with the Ford coil pack for over two years now without the capacitor and without a problem.........

Untill I moved my widebands close to the coil pack and I've now got unstable O2 readings. It's been suggested that I should fit the capacitor.

Thanks for that Paul, thats very encouraging - my wideband sensor is at the opposite corner of the engine bay to the coil pack pretty much so I should be fine on that score.

I've been doing all my testing (megasquirt/coilpack) without it and without any problems so far - it wasn't until Paul came up with his O2 readings issue and Denis mentioned the capacitor that I realised I'd forgotten to fit it too....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
