Do you use the A+ 998 ones or are they the same?

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

if you use a 1098 crank and 998 rods, wouldnt you have to pocket the head?

Im assuming whoever has done this before has used short height pistons or the 1098 rods are shorter. I dont know

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Use standard 1098 or 998 rods, they are both the same. A+ probably better.

You just need short height 1098 pistons.

Minisport.aus do hypatecs for 1098.

Cheers. Do they do oversize ones?

They do +0.040" and +0.060".

They are standard type slotted pistons rather than high performance. Veg is using them in his 1100.

I will also be using those +60 hypatecs onmy engine. It will never be finished though so I have nothing useful to contribute on their performance

A ones are better than A+ as they are fully floating small ends. However, the A+ rod bolts are better.

That's a good point. You will need the early A+ rods with the bushes for the fully floating pins.

You can still use the press fit, but piston removal would be tricky at rebuild time.

Thread resurrection.

I stripped my 1098 motor today to look at what I need to do.

Vegard did you stress relieve your 1098 A rods? pics?

Are ARP bolts available?

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

You can get ARP bolts from Minispares, but out of stock at the moment.

http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=33886&title=CON ROD BOLT/NUT KIT 998/...

Maybe not necessary for road use.

I don't think that you will need to do anything with the rods either unless you are planning on high revs.

EDIT - Link doesn't work for some reason. The ARP part no. is 200-6207 on the set in my hand.

As a point of note I have been told if you get the +80's from aus for the 998's they have holes not slots.

They have actually machined each side of the big end which does not show up well in that picture.

I can see the flats around the bearing holes.

Did they do your crank too Paul? pics?

They did both my 1275 and 850 cranks.

I don't think I've got a picture of the 1275 crank.

Is it the same with 1098 pistons?

Arent they the same pistons? I thought it was the crank and rods that were different

Rods are the same, pistons have the shorter compression height.

Near Paris - France

From calculations it is 3mm shorter in compression height.

Anybody with +120 or +80 998 pistons can measure the thickness of their crown ?

(I just picked up a 1098 crank for 30 euros and am contemplating building the largest turboed SBU possible)

You cannot use 998 pistons in an 1098. End of discussion.
