Just spoke to Millers to get the ideal and top temperature for their CVT 20w50 oil which most of us use. The guy in the tech department stated that for optimum oil performance it should be between 90-100 degres C and the the temperature at which this oil begins to break down is 130 degrees C. Some of you may have been aware of this but I thought it might be an idea to get the figures direct from Millers.

Good info, that why I'm suprised so many people here run an oil coolers, I had to remove my large oil cooler and fit a smaller oil cooler and place it away from direct air flow.

Here is some data from data logging around llandow last year. My turbo is not water cooled either which will no doubt bring up the oil temp.

You can see that my oil temps peak at 100 degrees, but most of the time are around the 96 degree mark.

I am running without an oil cooler on both the high revving 1191 cc engine (70.2 mm stroke) and on the screamer 133 (at the wheels) hp NA 16V engine. None of these have ever seen more than 110 degree oil temp. and that was after 12 laps at a very fast track where I had more than 6500 rpm almost everywhere.

Where where you measuring oil temp jim?

My std cooper monte carlo use to show over 100 degrees C just driving down the motorway... but that was a thermocouple in dipstick.

I take my oil temps behind the oil filter housing, so IMO this is the temp of the oil going to the bearings.

iiiiinteresting.

I hate my oil cooler, gets in the way and looks ugly. I dont have an oil temp gauge yet so I dont know if the oil will be "too" hot without it, I just want to ditch it though.

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

I've not had an oil cooler fitted for years now. Simply because according to the gauge, I don't need one.
