Ok after having my mate i was going to be building the 998 with went awol, i was going to just pokcet a 998 block n forget the 998 turbo... but i have a notion to try it...

whats the pros and cons between them?
I can see that a turbo will probably cost me a fair bit...but the pocketed block might not be as bad on price...but i'd just do it over a longer period...

what u think?

Well, of course a pocketed 998 block will give much more power than a turbo.

Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."
Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

pocket the block to fit a 12G940 head than strap a turbo onto it, job done..

if you build it right and dont go silly with the boost a fast and fairly cheep build with decent reliability

If your going to turbo a 998 by pocketing the block don't go silly with the valve sizes. Mahoosive ones arent needed.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

ruffle translates as:
" My mate that was going to help me build a turbo 998 has now gone AWOL.

I think I might just pocket a 998 block an forget the 998 turbo build.

which would be better and cheaper a 998 N/A with a big bore head or a standard 998 with a turbo.

if the Turbo is better but more expensive, then Ill just take my time and build it over a longer period."

In answer.....
A standard 998 with a well sized turbo will produce 80 - 90 hp and probly the same in torque.

A very well built 998 N/A with a pocket block and well ported big bore head will probly make 60-70 hp but need to rev to circa 7500 rpm meaning, you will need hardened crank, light weight flywheel propper carbs, etc expensive,

Have a look at Wil's turbo 998 as far as I know it practly standard and makes nice hp for small money.

Well, that depends if you want to turbo it or not...

Not being funny, but this is a silly question. How can pockets in block possibly affect the type of turbo that is suitable?

This thread gives me the impression that you have your ideas a little confused about what you want and what is required to turbo an engine.

Ignore the fact that you are turboing an A-series, it's not a special case. Basic theory on turbocharging is the same for any engine. You don't need to understand the maths, or even be able to read a compresor map to realise that pockets in the block have no effect on turbo choice.

Do a little reading and come back wiser. Once you know why you would choose a specific turbo for a specific task then it will be obvious which one will be better suited to your application.
