We are planning on using a Low Pressure feed to a swirl pot and then a High Pressure system local to the engine.

The car came with a Facet Red Top, interupter style pump and a Filter King filter/regulator. These should be OK to 200hp, so shall be Ok for the initial trial period.

The attached sketch shows how we plan to put it together.

The question is whether we need a return from the swirl pot back to the tank or if a simple vent valve to initially prime the system would suffice.

I would plumb in the return to the tank, my mate has exactly the same set up in the mini which he's building and he's been having no end of problems bleeding the system.

I'm going to return to the tank with my swirl pot.
Cheers,

Yes definitely return to the tank.
It would be a good idea to restrict it as well so that you have about 0.5bar in the swirl pot.
This always ensures a positive pressure into the HP pump to avoid any cavitation.

Thanks guys.

I like the idea of the restriction, it will at least give the Facet some pressure to work against.

I might leave out the Filter King as well.

I like putting a filter pre HP pump. I have seen a few pumps fail with debris in new installations (tanks/swirl pots etc)
If you don't make sure everything is perfectly clean.

Definitely run the return. Any air that finds its way in the surge tank won't be able to escape otherwise.

the swirl must always return to the main tank, exitting high up from the swirl.

Some say returning from the rails to the swirl tank, is a recipe for hot fuel. Ideally, you return to the main tank.

Although in this instance, the efi pump would outflow the facet, so perhaps not a good idea.

The over flow from the swirl to main tank might suffice to keep the fuel cool

Although Ive never actually figured out how hot fuel needs to be before it is a concern

202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
