Been looking about and reading for many months now.
Most of the projects on here have inspired me and given me ideas so thought i would post up and let you guys see my attempt at restoration. Who knows maybe you'll even spur me on to finish it.....
My mechanical skills are limited and this is the first time ive done anything like this.
so this is my mini a few years ago:

and as it was my first car it was treated fairly badly and run into the ground.
mini driving through a river:

rust went in most of the usual places sills, doorsteps, ect,
scuttle is mint so are the wings =]
so i built a lockup and put it away:

and started the strip down

worst bit on the car

so the usual stuff came out the engine , sub frames ect

i primed all the engine bay but i think ill redo it all now ive learnt how to do things better.
it was about this time i gave Carl a call and ordered a set of splits.

thanks Carl i love em.
ok moving on a bit here:
car was put on its side and was poked with a screwdriver:

so all that sides been done amazingly the A panel was mint.
so im now upto this:

soon to welded in.
while all this was going on i manged to swap an r/c car for this:

so that gave me 2 engines.

dodgy position of fuel tank!
so thats all for now.
Comments, criticism and advice appreciated

thanks for reading
Adam

it is or was as the case may be, a twin engined mini van that had been cut down,
rear subframe removed and a front subframe put in its place.
apparently used to shift fairly well back in its day too! 20 odd years ago.
but years sat in a damp garage took its tole and it was only fit for scrap everything was seized and the floors disintegrated.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

if you look carl, you can just see the slave cylinder below that master cylinder i think so guess not.

That wants some careful TLC and putting back together! not butchering *frown*

righto not done much this weekend, actually ive been rather lazy
what did i do this weekend?
well i reshaped a bodge done by the previous owner.
basically this is the bit your steering rack comes though to meet the coloum, they cut and bent it all, god knows why?

ive not much experiance, but got the hammers and dollys out and knocked it back into the best shape i could.
ive not got power in my lockup so will have to wait till i can get my extension plugged into my understanding neighbours garage before it gets welded.

so now with what i have done.
ive painted both the subframes, radius arms, ect.
Rebuilt the front hubs and built them up

got myself a carbon bootlid

dont know if im going to keep it carbon or paint it.
everything on the side is ready for welding, just got to sort out power and get on with it.
possibly on the road for August? for the IMM

right well the buggers still not on the road and interest has been low as have the funds.
but now things should be changing as i start to plan out my engine.
ive got myslef a bulkhead box ( thanks Jason)
and have been slowly collecting bits
i managed to get a:
carb
plenum
t3
all the manifolds
electric metro distributor
intercooler
and some other gubbins
fuel pump
and some other bit and bobs
so i should get the ball rolling soon
as for the shell....
its still basically the same.... ive been promised by my old man it will be ready come spring time

Looks like it should be a nice car by the spec you have planned, shame about the red van but it did look past its best.

Cheers Ross.

I know what you mean Paul. I always wish I had pictures like this of all my minis before I spamed them up.

been a while since i updated this ive not done loads but for the past few weeks enthusiasm has been high and money has been spent on a welding course.

welding course is now finished and ive bought a welding rig.
so i set about getting it solid again.
ive now relised that it will never be perfect but its good enough for now.

some of the welds are a bit rough in places but will smooth out with a flap disc

i also ordered up a Turbo Carb Rebuilt kit and a new BDD needle

and rebuilt the Carb

ive also bought a GT1752

and bought some Omega 10cc pistons

they seem to come highly recommeded by Benross and a few others.
today im away to the first show of the season and intend to buy some Grey oxide primer (tractor paint) white stone chip.
and a lot of clear waxoil and cavity wax.

oh i also bought a sealey cordless grinder but that been sent back as it over heats and cuts out every 2 mins

After reading your thread I did a search for Cavity Wax. Because I was not sure of the difference between Waxoil and Cavity wax.

And found this.

Click on the link at the bottom to purchase said items.

Thought I'd post it up for you to have a read. Interesting stuff.

thanks for that Si, its a good read
ill have to rething my plan but a waxoil underseal mix seems to be my best option at the moment without spending loads of cash.

Right.
since my last update a few decisions regarding the direction of my project have happened and all for the good!
ive sold all my 5 port turbo goodies and bought Andy wallers Twink engine bits.

ive specced up an engine but it is likely to change...

1293cc
forged omega 18cc pistons
Twink head (K1100)
dry decked
SC Rods, ARP bolts
GT25 Turbo
homebrew manifolds

i need to decide on what to do crank wise, in regards to what is actually essential?

gearbox is usual sorta spec:
minispares clubman gearset
SC drops
Cross pin diff

The head is already welded and im in the proscess of plugging up the block.
ive got the starting on a plenum but need to buy some bellmouths (any suggestions as to where i can get some)
and need to get a flange made up.

but all in due course...

body wise:
the roofs welded
the floor is sorted
inner and outer sills
door steps
drivers A panel
front panel is properly secured
rear valance
boot floor repairs

ive stripped the doors down and dicovered heaps of filler so should get the bottoms welded at the weekend and the new alloy skins put on. i need to aquire some holes saws and swager tools
i dont really want to cut the whole inner skin out the door but plan to drill plenty holes in it.
I also need to think about mounting my intercooler and what to do about the inner wings, they are rusty and possibly in the way.
can i cut them out with a non removeable steel front and put some brace bars in to retain some strengh?

ive also got a switchpod dash from the 16vminiforum group buy and am currently loooking at what digi dash / dials i fancy.
i need to find some decent joints for making an internal shift that dont cost the earth.

thats all for now

wee update to keep me motivated...

bottoms of doors have been welded and are ready for losing some weight.

i flipped the car onto its side and cleaned everything up aswell as removed all the tabs that are no longer required and gave everything a coat of red oxide and then stonechip

i then flipped it back over and stripped it back down to a bare shell and propped it on some axle stands

next up ive to spotblast under the wings and then make the seat mounts and harness bar
