Fastest A Series Mini in the World

leeds/wakefield.

with the success of my lkast oputing still fesh in my mind i headed off to York Raceway today,
the weather was sunny, and warm, still as a mill pond,

now the day was marred by a number of oildowns and some technical glitches with the timing , so the day went slow,

i only managed two runs, and lucky to get them,

run one, and even after Tom and my best efforts to purge the nitrous pipes, ,the car bogged the instant the nitrous was activated, fouled a plug in the rear engine and i limped home,. no point working the motors for no worthwhile reward,

run two, after making a better jodb or purging manually,

i gave it another go, away from the line , was quite tame, not as good 60 ft as previous, at 1.74 secs,[ as apposed to previous of 1.56secs] but by now i'm really making progress, now i'm in 2nd and only have a few seconds to decide if i'm latching top or giving 3rd a go, before i know it ive latched 3rd and the car really is pulling like a train, snatch top and on over the finish,

i know it was a good run, and on my return to the pits Tom informed my it was 10.83, secs,

i was happy with this considering i'd made three gear changes, instead of the usual 2.

i ran throught he 1/8th at 104.5 mph, the quickest ive ever been and onto 126.8 mph terminal,

this run was done with exactly the same nitrous setting as the last outing and the times and terminals showed that it is hitting a wall at 126 mph with the power available,

we then decided to up the power, and brought in some more aggressive nitrous setting,

all to no avail for i we were waiting in the fire up lanes i noticed the water pump to alternater bracket had cracked again and the alt was just waiting to fall off,,

my attempts at welding the broked water pump had lasted 2 runs.

that ended the day so headed home,
i'll get the mounting for the Alt sorted in the next few weeks and possibly try a gain at the last meeting,

roll on nest month,

carl

Nice to see though carl that with everything working well it can do times in the region of 10.85 more than once.

It seems that the Nitrous purge problem will not go away on its own so we will have to be careful to purge properly or perhaps fit a seperate purge solenoid as we discussed.

Shame about the alt bracket, I don't know about you but I've certainly caught the sun today as well.

Good stuff Carl. As Tom said, it's nice to see it can do it more than once.

Hi,
Is there something out of balance in the alternator as it seems way to eager to jump ship?
Good results, pity about the lack of runs.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I think Carls twinnie does need the alt, Carl also thinks the same.

Don't forget there are 4 nitrous solenoids to run, and two engines to start, which can take some starting sometimes if they are being grumpy.

can you just use (jackson?) plugs with a spare tractor battery or the like?

guess its only a case of getting it sorted and not having to bother with all that.

Its not only starting it though, with two of everything it takes some juice to keep running, plus with it being very sensitive to a weak spark anyway, every little helps.
With the Ti bracket carl is planning I'm sure it will be fixed once and for all.

yeah i guess. its just that i can run for a full day without topping the battery up at all and its only a small one *happy*

thats with the metty style pump etc which draws a fair bit and maybe starting it 20ish times.

As you say though, a new bracket and its sorted.

Does it use the seperate toothed belt drives (or even leccy water pump) so that if it breaks again, you can just pull it off in about 30 seconds and keep going?
