My favourite show, probably because it's one of the closest.

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

It was a good show.

Lot's of minis, nice weather and no prats on the tannoy.

Had a word with Matt W, otherwise not many turbos there except a blinging yellow van running a T3 at 16psi and Nitrous!

I could have spent a grand on the Min-Its stand, but fortunately he was only taking cash.

Spotted some cheap forged pistons on the Minispeed stand made by Iasa. looked good and only £330 a set. Also a nice sequential box, but at £3700 I might give that a miss.

Paul.

That was my van.

Wouldn't have been there at all if it weren't for advice from TM and I believe yourself, particularly about getting my Megasquirt install working - now have a great map which I'll post up.

Managed to pick up Best in Class and Best Engine Bay - one point away from Best in Show and £400 apparently. Elated and Gutted - bit weird.

Didn't see much of the show - my wife Sandie and I arrived at 9:30 and we didnt get judged until 3 pm (was supposed to be 12 pm). Still, no worries, was good to chat to people all day.

From what we saw in the couple of hours we had left, the standards were very high and there was some great innovation around, particularly the Z Cars VTEC on 16 inch rims and the two bike engined cars. The orange Turbo in Custom Class (is it Matt's ?) was great.

Also and unusually good amount of traders - the weather was fab from 10 am up until close of play.

Watch out for the article on the van in Mini Mag out on 22 September.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Richard,

Sorry did not recognise the car, although you have posted up pictures of the engine bay before.

I must say I was puzzled by some of the bits under the bonnet - like the standard coil as well as the EDIS coil.

And is that a nitrous bottle under the alternator?

Yes, it was a good show. I don't generally like that kind of show, but I like the setting at Stanford, plus the weather is usually OK.

Paul.

I'll get some phots in the Show us Yours section with a spec list, this will explain lots I hope.

Only been to Beaulieu and Stanford with the van cos it only went on the road on 5th June after a 10 year build.

Still setting up and running in at mo, but trying a more aggressive running in schedule (8 psi normal use with sprints to 16 psi, all under 4,000 rpm with no undue labouring - no pain no gain and all that !).

I was initially having problems setting up the MS in direct wasted spark set up (without EDIS) so ran a MT dizzy and coil to get some miles on the engine and for me to sort the fuelling out - nearly there with that (thanks to TM top needle polishing guru Terry).

I had to leave the ECU in place as it controls fan, water, tacho, AIT, CLT, wide band etc.

Had it off the road for a couple of weeks so sent the ECU away for checkin. Phil Ringwood reported that it had developed a fault firing cyls 2 & 3 - this was my running problem and was down to a blown coil driver. Phil replaced both drivers with the new Bosch items which are apparently bullet proof and I then set about getting the ECU and ignition running on MS again.

I've sorted this now and I think I've got a really good base map prior to dyno tuning (I'll post the map up on TM soon).

However, I've left the dizzy and leads fitted, along with the coil (with the live feed disconnected and insulated), so that if I need to 'limp home' with a blown ECU, I've got the means of doing so, just by swapping over from ECU to dizzy.

The water bottle under the alternator is a water injection tank which when combined with my Knock Sensor, can be used to supress detonation, fed by a boost line and NRV.

The gravity fed pump is under the bottle on the subby and the pulsed solenoid valve is the thing that you saw on top of the servo - the same solenoid is used on the Nitrous kits by Wizards of NoS - this is where this water kit has come from rather than Aquamist.

I really must get a smaller alternator - lots of people commented it looks oversized - its not, its just that when you move it up and rotate it on the MPi bracket, its in your face rather than being tucked out of the way. I did this so that I could get the oil cooler and water tank in place.

Hope this explains.

I agree that Stanford was a great setting - very nostalgic and relaxed. Deffo go next year.
