I started two months ago converting my 998- turbo power :)




the strip down.....


Engine out


one day in work when i had a free moment i bashed this up!




it cleaned up not to bad..


Im fitting a 4 pin for safety. the gearbox is already a tran x sc cr job anyway.




while the engine is out i changed the clutch plate to a turbo jobbie and added another 3 clutch straps for safety the pressure plate is an orange one so i hope its ok its only a 998 after all*happy*










modified the tappet cover for a breather so its on the left hand side and not the right as it fouls the exhaust manifold doh!!*frown*






Big day today engine back in woo hoo 8-)



ground out the exhaust elbow to match up with my exhaust..

im using the original t3 which is in good condition, its old tech but it will get me up and running until i decide on another....




my home made exhaust which cost me a tenner from the local scrap yard its mostly pug diesel with a transit tailpipe*happy*








today i made up a few compression fittings for my fuel tank on my lathe must m16 bolts with a good 8mm hole








finally decided to fit my wee jap alternator managed to get it right up against the block loads of room for a front mounted radaitor if i need one






decided to go with a farriday decompression plate this year to save modifying my pistons i had the head opened up to 23cc

im using a mg 1300 head (12g940) but heavily skimmed as my engine was 11-1 before so 23cc was as far as my engine builder mate would dare

















All back together again






for an intercooler i went down the scrappy again i think the intercooler is from a TD astra and the pipes come drom a dci renault scenic and came to a tenner for the lot.

did i say i was a tight git????*happy*













made up a quick manifold for the inlet pipe and dumpvalve today









This arrived in the post the other day..... and has been a right pain in the backside ever since *angry*



well thats me all done, all i have to do now is get it set up and dynod *happy*

Excellent work. I presume you will fit jubilee clips on the IC hoses.

I bet it won't be long before the T3 is heading towards the bin though.

cheers guys thanks for the replys. got it up and running tonight well at least until i noticed the heater matrix leaking into the drivers footwell..... typical.... next job is to cut a hole in the bonnet for the intercooler, a test run and i think a stronger spring in the dashpot:)

well finally a wee update.... got the mini up and running and took it to the rolling road

first power run made 77 bhp at no boost at all 2psi or something lol

second run at 7psi made 108bhp that was with an afr of 12.3

ok time to up the boost a little.......*happy*

turned up the boost a little more and the decompression plate failed between cylinders 2/3!! *angry*


so some arp head bolts a new copper decompression plate instead of aluminium and back to the rollin road this week to up the boost*happy* fingers crossed it will hold together

i say stay with 7psi for the moment as thats pretty good power! then with it running on that find yourself a decent head (295) and get it worked when you have the money. then simply bolt it on and you dont have to worry about the decompression plate!

the decompression plate was from ferriday engineering the guy keith is a good fella I explained wot happened to him and he made me a new one out of copper for just the price of material and postage i dont think he will be making alloy decompression plates for minis anymore *happy*

with stainless i think you have to use two gaskets on either side of the plate when i worked it out i think my cr would have been 7.5-1 one or something around that just a bit low.....

Sorry its been a while since i posted on here computer and internet problems....... *crying*

over the last few months ive used half a tank of fuel and been through two decompression plates and 3! BK450 head gaskets im never using a decompression plate again! you could say im a bit pissed off. anyhow im taking the engine out at the mo so I can dish the pistons properly, check the bottom end and make a few more mods.

wot s/c drops would you guys reccomend for a 998??
And can you ger ARP main bolts for a 998?

ive also seen a sexy flywheel bolt made by KAD which i might get

im using the standard mini hinges with just one bolt in. the other is holding using a big washer. its hard to explain i will post a pic later when i find my camera.

The drops to recommend for the 998 are from swifttune. I have never run them, but as far as I know they are the only suppliers out there making them. That is what I will be buying when I get to that point.

Its been a very long time since I posted or even visited here but after a good few years and many other projects im back on track with my mini *smiley*

To spur myself on I found a new set of 3 piece split rims. 6.5x12inch




But when they arrived they were far from useable. And the supplier could not be tracked down. I have since found out that be went bankrupt years ago and the company has ceased. But the website is stil operational........

The rims needed stripped as all the mating faces have been powdercoated and when built up the rim runs out of true. Also the centre still has all the flashing from the casting process.

There is roughly 10-12 hours spent on each rim getting it just right. Wish I had just bought a set of force rims now lol. I thought I was getting a bargain

Next up is rust repair.

It was originally on the road in two months lol but only for a few hundred miles now 6 years later lol 6 year build?

Ive had the car since 2001 *smiley*

I was originally using a decompression plate and it kept eating headgaskets. But now rebuilt again with pistons skimmed 40thou to lower compression. Converted to 11 stud, new crank as I found the last one cracked. And straight cut 998 drops. The old t3 is still on there but will be changed for a ct9 from a starlet as ive got one here that was free *smiley*

When you say skimmed 40thou do you mean the piston tops?
