should probably start a new thread about this, but hey, has anyone done any definative testing on the best shape of cylinder head? ive heard of people using completly round chambers? i understand the theory when applied to na engines, but i also realise that the rules are slightly diferent with a turbo engine.
And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers! |

Alex, do you really believe that back-to-back tests have been carried out on engine dynos with different chamber shapes, but identical porting, CR and valvetrain geometry???

hello, just wondering what tools you require to attempt this, i am supercharging a 1275 a plus over the summer and am going to need to open up the head a little, also quite fancy having a go at opening up the ports and matching etc but was just wondering whether you need a mill or can it be done with a drill and grinding stone??

nobby, if you haven't done this already, you can do this using a dremel type tool with a flexi drive, using various sizes/shapes of grinding stones. Be aware it takes some time! I've just had my MPi on the rollers with a home ported head and got 74bhp, so it can be worthwhile! |

IMHO head modifying, even with the Vizard guide, is not something that an amateur can do well. It is relatively easy to make an improvement on a standard head by just cleaning it up and making a bit more room in some places. I,ve done a lot and the biggest mistake I have made is taking off too much metal - you can always take more off, but its tricky putting it back.
