hi, im looking at tuning my mpi engine. it will be running standard mpi injection. i have a cooper works 90bhp head and matching 1.5 roller rockers, and a sw5i cam. will the head and rocker setup be compatable with this cam, or will there be too much lift for the standard injection to cope with? the only other engine mod is k&N induction. many thanks

Hi,
I don't think valve lift will be a problem for the injection system, duration and overlap are you main worries here.
However you should be careful of the mechanical considerations.
Too much lift on it's own or worse still coupled with strong valve springs will destroy your camshaft and valve guides.
Are 1.5 rockers recommended by the cam manufacturer?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Sounds very similar to the set up on my mates MPI:

SW5i Cam
1.5 Rockers (supplied by Swiftune)
Ported head (also supplied by Switfune)

So I wouldn't have though there would be too much of a problem, although I don't know what valves springs Swifty fitted, but I'm sure if you call him he'd be able to advise you.

As an aside my mate has also gone for a bigger throttle body, and fuel pressure regulator, however his biggest concern is the air filter housing being too restrictive.

Also have a word with Sprocket about resetting the ECU as there are a few myths and rumors going around.

The biggest problem with MPi is the ECU, and there isnt much you can do about that other than fitting a Power Boost Valve.

I have not heard of any MPi above 90bhp, and you most certainly wont get much above with the SW5i cam.

Recon on 1380cc Kent 274 or 274SP cam, 1.5 ration rockers, a fully ported head with matched and dowelled inlet manifold with a big bore LCB and 2" exhaust.

With that lot you are getting to the limits of the emissions with the cam and rocker combination.

Its the attention to detail that makes all the difference. Read Visards book *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

you could fit a newly programmed chip, yes, it works

I have not heard of any MPi above 90bhp

i know one, bigger displacement, own manifold, and a chip of cause
