Whats the best way of testing which pin in which on a 3 pin TPS? Never done it before and want to make sure I get it right!

Cheers
Matt

this might load.... i suspect there is a usual pinout?

does it have a part no?

if not you should be able to work out what pin is what with a meter.

Joe, do you have a photo of your tool?

im sure i wrote a wee guide to doing this, but mya have been on another forum.

get a multimeter, set it to resistance, say the 20k range.

now you have 3 connections, so you have 3 possible pairs of connections (polarity is irrelevant) measure them whilst swinging the tps from the "throttle closed" position to the throttle open position.

one pair will stay constant,
one pair will increase in resistance
one pair will decrease in resistance.

noting the 2 pins that stayed constant the other pin is the TPS's output!

now noting the 2 pins that started at a low resistance and moved to a high resistance as the throttle opens, one of these pins will also be one of the pins whose resistance stayed constant. this is the 0v input.

now noting the 2 pins that started at a high resistance and moved to a low resistance as the throttle opens, one of these pins will also be one of the pins whose resistance stayed constant. this is the 5v input.

Cool, I can't see a part number on it but that guide makes perfect sense! :)

I thought that was the way you worked out the TPS, but I didn't know how to work out the polarity.

Will give that a go!

Cheers guys.
