Picked up my 850 crank frm MED this morning.

Wedged, re-ground, nitro-carbusrised etc.

Only took them 3 weeks and it looks good workmanship, so I've given them the con-rods to lighten etc.

I measured the combustion chambers this afternoon on the K100 8v head.

They came out at 21cc.

That's good news as I only have to take 2.5mm of the block deck to get 10:1 with the 0.6mm gasket. If I change the gasket to the 1.6mm one, I then get 9:1, so easy to try diffrent CRs.

Also no valve pockets if I re-profile the cams.

NA to start with, then turbo.

I'm going get Piper to reprofile the cams to around 260 degrees duration and set them at 110-112 degrees LSA.

Depends what you are aiming for.

I'm looking for 60mpg.

Latest aquisition:

Lightened, balanced and shot-peened rods. Hopefully good for 8000rpm.

Feels like a cheque book build at the moment.

Pistons from Minisport Aus:

They are 998 +0.120", so a lot bigger than the standard piston. The piston and pin weigh around 300 gram which is OK considering the size. About 25 gram heavier than the original P20950.

They have 9.5mm from the top down to the first ring which is supposed to be beneficial for a turbo application.

This is a comparison with standard pistons.

Underside:

I was worried that they may have made them larger on the outside and kept the standard inside dimensions which would have made a heavy piston. However the skirts are same thickness as standard.

Minisport Aus version of a 1293 piston. There is another post somewhere with a better picture.

Started the dry decking today.

Milled a couple of millimeters off the deck to start with. It will need a bit more to get the deck height right for the 850 crank and 10:1 compression.

Left the engine number boss at normal height for reference purposes.

Had to turn it round to mill the whole length. Working at the limits of my Chester lathe/mill here.

I can just get colletts and cutters in and out without moving the head or workpiece, so using the SC template should be a doddle. That is once I've relocated the 3 studs that normally stay in place.

Opened up the push rod holes ready for tapping 3/8" BSPT.

Using these taper threaded iron plugs to block the holes.

Cool, where did you get the plugs from? also I assume that you're going to get a machine shop to do a final pass on the block with a fly cutter.
