as some of you may know, I had a transmission failure in October (No-one to blame nut myself, Standard box, drops, diff and over 12psi boost).

I looked into getting the whole lot upgraded and rebuilt, but it was looking really expensive. So I had a look for a second hand, built up engine and box of a reasonable spec.

Luckily, Carl was in the process of going non A-series
http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=178397
So I quickly snapped up his A-series.

Here's the spec...

167bhp. 177ftlb torque at mikeanics rolling road in congleton running 20psi.

standard reconned turbo head with 1.3 roller rockers, sodium filled exhaust valves, double valve springs and ally rocker cover.

standard T3 turbo with braided oil feed pipe, turbo carb(rebuilt a couple of years ago) giallofly modified plenum for intercooler and dumpvalve take off. dumpvalve. pipercross air filter. ford turbo actuator (about 10psi) use a bleed valve to run 20psi

A+ block over bored 20 thou(1293) avonbar/accralite 18cc dished forged pistons. center main strap. avonbar phase 2 camshaft. vernier adjustable double link timing gear/chain. got the earlier and apparently stronger cam 5281 (do a search for the correct number dont know if thats right lol)

minisport straight cut gear set, minisport straight cut drop gears. minispares 4 pin diff, minisport lightened and balanced pre verto flywheel, grey diaphram and organic race plate.

megajolt ignition system all parts included. exhaust down pipe with a/f sensor in it.

Since buying the engine, I've been in touch with Steve, BENROSS for a full race head and the elbow and manifold work. I've painted it in black (not sure if I will gain or loose bananas by doing this!?!) Fitted the Megajolt, removed the damaged unit, swapped the turbos over (mine had less play in the shaft), fitted Nic's plenum, ND Alternator from Matty added an oil cooler and changed all the brake and clutch hoses for braided items.

Pics to follow.

After removing the old unit I found this rather nice subframe to bulkhead bracket that the previous owner had made. I gave it all a good clean and painted the lower parts with Waxoil underseal paint. Hopefully that will scare off the tin worm for a bit.

I made up a heatsink for the Edis unit out of one of those crappy oil filter cooler things that I ahd lying around in the garage. Best thing for it!!

And fitted the Megajolt etc. I haven't taped up the wiring just yet as I want to make sure that it all works beforehand. There's nothing worse than removing insulation tape from metres of wiring loom!

I used the stabiliser arm that was originally fitted to my car. Looks to be a good piece of kit, although it had come apart from vibration. Hopefully cured with a bit of threadlock.

Sorry about all of the pics, I've never done anything like this before and got a bit trigger happy.

I'll keep you all posted with my progress.

Cheers for all of the help so far.

I've not seen another one like it.

It's got poly bushes inside it, with a piston like thing attached to one bush and the other end is mounted to the outer casing.

It's definitely not a damper off a mountain bike.

I'll pull it apart and take pics if you want to see it in detail.

Will be interesting no doubt.

I'm hoping for about 140 nana's at 10psi. That will be the setting for most road outings, but I'll have to see what it'll make at 20psi to see by how much the head has improved things.

I got supplied wih the 3 dash bolts in an engine kit:

the one on the left just wouldnt torque up to 70ftlbs, i thought id pulled the threads in the block, but the bolt had stretched about 1mm, you can just about see where its thinned at the top of the thread.

Make sure theyre 6 dash

I will dig out the number for you. I just cut a belt down to the right size, then measured it and took it to Halfords. They are numbered with the length in mm anyway.

You've done what Carl should have done, had he stuck with the A-series.

You won't need 20 psi with Steve's head
