Rob H asked me to make the 'Spax' coil over mounting kit for him.
Given me dimensions etc. I've knocked up some out of 2mm just to check & make sure everything fits.
Anyone like to comment on any problems or mods that could be useful.
The final ones I make will be 4mm material.

Think the original spax ones are 4mm steel. Seems abit over the top.
Anyone got any pics with them fitted?
Carls given me an idea.

Interesting. I think alluminium will suffice Rob. *wink*
The lower mount could be one piece too.
Looks like the side parts are just to spread the load from the ball joint nut.
Looking from the side of the car, is the top mount at a slight angle to the lower one???

My concern with these is that they mount the bottom of the shocks even further inwards.

EDIT: I'm guessing from the article on the 16V site that these are metro arms, so there is a good chance that the suspension geometry may well be different to that of a Mini.

Well if it's good enough for Mr Austin, it should be ok for me.

Not sure about the strength of a single piece mount

Not sure what you mean? The shocks are definitely at an angle, but then the arms are near the top of there travel and would be close to the bump stops (if I'd fitted bump stops)

I think you've only got to worry about the compression of the shock on the lower arm. Should be ok
Might need to borrow a shock, and see someone local with a mini to try it on.

mine were like the picture rob h posted above. depending on how low you want to go with them, i.e alot lower than standard then they hit the subframe.

i made up my own brackets i think from 4mm steel can't remember, but it moves it out from the subframe and the shock compresses rather than swivels if you get me?

I like your idea steveobennet. I expect it depends what offset etc is on the wheels. Don't them to hit.

Thinking about this a bit more if you go for alloy it may be worth closing in the top of the mounts to give them a tad more rigidity.

Milamber...

do you have any Aluminium stuff ?

I could do with a short piece of Alu bar, say 20mm diam, with a 6-8mm hole drilled through it ?
Basically a heavy tube ( needs to be for my welding *happy* )

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
