Well done man.

Good idea to use masking tape instead of welding. Don't know how long it'll hold together though. *tongue*

Coming on nicely though.

So how are you getting in the car? LOL

Looks like its gonna be solid. Handling your main priority?

Those cars at brands hatch are boss. Bill richards one is the clubman.

Back once again like a renegade master

If it helps I'm planning on running a harness bar on the main hoop (I picked up so addition bar from Merlin a while back) but then I'm planning on mounting my hoop slightly further back like Lee McNair's Miglia.

i saqw lee mcnairs car last week end at brands, it looks like his main hoop is in about the same position as mine but the hoop brace has got a lot more of a bend in it.

the 2 baces btween the door bars have been swapped around as i cut one a bit short but it doesnt really notice.

good luck with yours i need to look back but it has taken over a mount of evenings to get it to this stage!

Did you build the entire cage yourself, or is part of it a kit ?

Looks bloody impressive !!!!!

It's a rollcentre weld in cage, I've got exactly the same for my Mini, expect I haven't fitted mine yet.

its inadvisable to mount harnesses like that.

In a severe impact, your spine could get crushed due to the angle of the belts.

Fit a bar at the back of the cage, and run the belts straight and horizontal from it.

Don't envy you trying to get fully welded joints in the boot Andy, looks a little 'tight'!

So are you going to cut the roof off or the bottom few inches of the main hoops to weld over the top?

i think a lot off the mini cages are all quite simular seeing as they have to pass the same test.

everything is just placed in at the moment so if i need to trim stuff to get more room i can.

and yeah roofs coming off as i have a carbon skin waiting to go on, i just dont want to cut the roof off untill the main cage is welded up and tied into the sides off the shell.

From what I remember harness straps shouldn't be more than 10-15 degrees from horizontal for the reasons Stevieturbo has said.

Edit: Although it's quoted at 45 degree on the web:

"WARNING: It is strongly recommended that the shoulder harnesses are fitted as close to horizontal as possible. It is a must that the angle of the shoulder harness does not exceed 45 degrees in relation to the theoretical horizontal axis of the mounting points."

I've seen 45 degrees quoted many times before as Jay2 says. Maybe one of the harness manufacturers will tell us the truth?

The instructions that came with my willans harnesses say between horizontal and -20 degrees. However the blue book says +/- 10 degrees desirable and up to -45 degrees is acceptable.

If fitting a cage, it would be silly not to mount them horizontal on a bar though.

Its simple maths. If they are at an angle, there will be compression loadings on your spine, when the belts are restraining you.
