Thought i'd put up a few pictures of my new project. I've owned this car for 7 years she used to be my daily driver which i did up and then turned into a trackday car. Then i started working for a Mini Miglia race team and realised that while i thought it was fairly nice it was actually a bit rubbish. So finally i've started to rebuild it.

I cut it all out, used some 3mm to make the curve which i bent round something suitable, think it was a gas bottle, welded that on.

Tiny bit of progress today, managed a couple of hours so i made mounts for my front subframe brace bars and lost a bit more weight from the inside.

I'd love to take credit for the design on the axle stand points, but they were copied from the race cars my friend builds, i only know of 3 Minis who have these and none of them are road cars, so i might be the first - woo hoo. Well our car has these - is it one of the three then? Could be as it has Rightline Motorsport written all over it. We are hoping to be road legal by July 12th! Edited by Paul S on 31st Jan, 2009. Paul , is it going to be road legal in the same livery? I've not really though about it too much. I would like to leave it as it si but I'm not sure about the legality of it. I though we would just remove some of the stickers and the number. Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."

Damn make that 4 cars i know of, i'd forgotten about the red car, mind you it was built before my time there. It does seem to be a Rightline feature, but its just such a good idea i couldn't help but try to copy it. Respect for trying to make it road legal, they are quite extreme cars to 'backwards' engineer to make road legal. With mine i did think about making it a lot more extreme and going for the more race bias, but I thought that if i did i'd never drive it. So i'm deliberately not going full out on it and designing it to be a road car from the off, i got my seats yesterday and i'm spending time researching different heater options. Does anybody know the legalities of MOT windscreen demisting? |

I've never had my heater checked on an mot, but some form of demisting is always handy. When i had heater failure i just used anti fog stuff and it worked a treat. |

With regard the axle stands, do you just weld a steel bar to the stand upright and then plate over the top?

For doing mine i bought the cheapest axle stands Halfords sold, they are pretty crap but they dont need to take a lot of weight and they had the tubular upright, i think they were about a tenner a pair.
