Hello all
I've been on this site a while, but I thought I'd show you how far I've got with my engine.
I was going to put it in this car:

But unfortunately this happened with a Honda accord estate:

So now I'm looking for a clubman in good condition.

I built and installed the engine before I crashed the mini, but only had it running n/a, with an lcb. It wasn't bad for a c/r of 8.0:1, i roughly timed 0-60mph at about 9 or 10 seconds.

Engine spec:

metro turbo block refaced and rebored to 1293 with 18cc accralite pistons on standard A+ rods

crankshaft reground and nitrided with centre main strap

vernier duplex timing chain and phase 2 turbo cam

standard metro head (for now)

straight cut drop gears and gearset with 3.44:1 cross pin diff.

I'm working on the mirage manifold set-up at the moment, making brackets etc. Fortunately I am a Mig welder by trade, so this helps.

The startermotor, radiator and the distributor were damaged in the crash, so I'll be getting megajolt aswell.

Hi,
I believe the mirage downpipe finishes where an LCB would normally, so yes...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

A fiberglass front would get that back on the road?

the mirage kit is 3 pieces , the manifold, the turbo elbow, and the downpipe which goes to the exhaust link pipe.

Bat, I wish a flipfront would have fixed it, but the door pillars were pushed back, i think it pushed the floor up slightly. The car i hit up the back had a cracked bumper as far as I could tell!

it was worse than the pics show. there was plenty of rust as well. it pushed the pillars back so the door was wedged in the doorframe, and the subframe pushed the floor up slightly

Herefordshire

a bummer that it happened, is the engine already to go once you get a new car then?

it was about 30ish, i came off a roundabout and there was someone waiting to turn off into a sliproad. totally my fault, should have expected it. The honda accord estate i hit was solid as stone, the mini just bounced off it! the seatbelt dug into my chest, which hurt for a few days, but was apparently just slight bruising.

Nic, the engine is not ready yet, I need to get megajolt stuff, and I will probably get a ported head with bigger valves before I put it in aswell. As the C/R is plenty low enough, I would like to leave the chambers the same size and shape as standard. Would I be able to fit slightly bigger valves into a standard chamber?

Other than that and fuel lines, a new radiator and plumbing, yet it's pretty much ready

Hi,
Benross is your man for heads, but you should be able to get bigger valves in without too much trouble.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi all
I've put some pot joints in the diff, and to get the clearance for the downpipe, you have to pull fairly hard on it. I searched and found some old posts include one where it said you had to pull with some force, but will this not put strain on things and induce cracks and breakages?

They're painted on *frown* . Hopefully I will grow to like them. I couldn't find any proper rust on it, and I think it will take little work to get an MOT, then the fun begins! I want to keep it looking fairly standard, so may do s brakes and reverse rims, not decided yet
