Iv finally got some pics of my mini turbo project...

I bought this mini last weekend, it is my 7th mini....

It has a 1340 turbo charged engine and is de-seamed.... it has recently had a full re-spray in vauxhall metalic black and is very very shiny!!

The engine has been dyno'd at the nobel garage and apparently makes 108bhp at the wheels..... this is without being intercooled... (which im in the process of!!)

the car has a steel flip front and currently has no interior... but it did come with 2 brand new corbau forza seats... It has a full cage and is fitted with 13inch minilites....

I am currently looking for a wiring loom for the car as the one in it is a mini metro mix and is a right mess so im gonna throw it away n start again...

Please leave your comments...

Thanks
Jim

Nice looking car.

Nic, looks like a deseamed car in a dark colour .... an optical illussion of the rear screen panel being at more of an angle.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

i think it the lack of roof gutter that gives it an optical illussion!
i would personaly de-bumber it but it looks cool either way.
looks to be a tidy mini once its done!

good luck with the build mate, i hope to be doing mine soonish!!lol

Well iv just come in from working on the mini most of the afternoon, I fetched a rear loom this morning courtesy of Udo....
so vi been removing the old and replacing with new this afternoon....

The reasoning behind this will become very apparent when u look at the pics. The car had 2 full rear looms, both fed under the floor brace/seat mount and up through the rear seat and then through the seat back..... one down either side...
and one partial loom just at the rear....

none of the looms were full or in any decent state to repair so they will be scrapped....

thats not where it ends tho, cause allong with the looms were 2 lengths of 4 core cable one into the boot as with the looms and one just fed from the dash to the back coiled up....

the mind boggles!!!

so now the car has only one rear loom, which is fed through the roof channel and down the "A" pillar as its supposed to be...

Iv also come up against another couple of problems this week... the replacement fron loom i got sent was the wrong type...(solenoid on the wing, mine is on the starter)

and the rear lights are the wrong kind for the year of car(no reverse lights) oh and their wiring has been butchered too....

i have however got the wiper motor and mechanism fitted, re fitted the exhaust (looked like it had been fitted by a blind guy) as it was sitting against the rear subframe, freed off the handbrake quadrants so i can actually put it on now, and sorted a place for my intercooler to sit....

these pics are as it is now, (im gonna run the loom inside the car behind th dash)

The old looms....

thanks
Jim

Hi,
looks like you've got your hands full with that rewire!
I do the same, if it looks a mess rip the lot out and start again. Probably be safer and more reliable too!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rite, iv had some more time to spend on the car today...

iv mapped out and started setting up the intercooler to where i want it....

what do u guys think?

(it will have ducts and tubing to it... and the top hose that looks like it will stick out of the bonnet will be moved so the front will close propperly...)

Also iv been making the modified inlets and outlets for the plenum and turbo respectively...

i will post pics up of these when i get them finished...

thanks
Jim

Spot on Jim, you have a similiar engine bay to mine there mate, I was in a similiar pickle about the intercooler mounting, however I managed to get it at the front. What intercooler do have you there mate? I used an RST intercooler similiar size.

Yours looks good mate, where did u get the modified plenum inlet from?

the intercooler is apparently off a vauxhall diesel, the guy was gonna fit a cossie one but couldnt get it to fit...#

seems like there is gonna be plenty of room for air movement....

thanks
Jim

Cheers Jim

The plenum chamber is on loan! From a Gentleman who deals with Minis, it was taken from a poorly mini turbo. All it is, is an inch spacer welded into the trunk, and the trunk turned 90 degrees. I am going to need to make or source one, as he will want it back at the end of the year!

I had to modify the front panel, but 90% of the intercooler is behind the grill and the cooling works well judging by feeling the pipe temps. Inner wings are aluminium sheets

Small update, iv fitted some new rear lights, and some clear indicators too....

Done the left one too obviously...

also fitted a new column and switch gear as there was a manky one jammed in there, also fitted all my chrome wiper gear that arrived from midland wheel supplies on friday...

and just trial fitted my new smooth boot lid that arrived today (thanks Tommf)

just got to paint it to match....

Iv trial fitted one of my bucket seats but the frames that are welded in the car are too tall so im gonna have to chop them down and fabricate some of my own....

most of the parts to finish the car have now arrived so time is the only thing slowing me now.,.... lol

thanks

Here you can see the high metalic of the black paintwork....

Thanks

Looks top mate, dont think you'll get away with having the rear cushions in the MOT though.

If theres cushions there theres supposed to be seatbelts for them, so whip them out when you go for the test!

Where did you get that headlining from? Looks good!

The headlining is just carpet bought from a trimmers, we have glued it all in with upholstery glue...

I will get the seats out before the mot, they are just there to stop the rear seat pan looking a mess really.

Really nice!

Love the smooth look. I think I agree with he earlier comment about removing the bumpers, but it looks ace either way.

Get the wheels refurbed with black centres and polished dishes and it will look evil.

In the 13's at last!.. Just
