leeds/wakefield.

having crafted many a modified A series crank over the years, i have only just got around to weighing one, now obiously i know the answer but does anyone know from experience or would just like to have a guess how much weight is removed by, + or - a few oz's
wedging,
knifedging,
lightly backdrilled,
and a good clean up [very generous radii all round]

for scientific evaluation only of course.

When I saw this thread I weighed a standard crank at 10.25Kg and my race crank at 8.25Kg. thats quite a difference.
I suppose there is quite a difference between crank weights from the factory.

I was going on the fact that the Morspeed website states that wedging removes 3kg:

leeds/wakefield.

so according to morespeed a wedge and knifedge will remove 4kgs, or nearly 9 lbs, or in other words over a 1/3rd of the weight of a standard crank,
NEVER,unless you go for 1" mains and 3/4" big ends, and then wedge down to these,sizes.lol.

got to be fantasy quotes. unless hes talking about imperial weights.which may make more sence

The chaps not doing bad if he's removing 35% off the std crank... i like to have a good look at one of those..

I cc'd one of his 29cc turbo heads the other day and it came out at 26cc so i guess numbers sell parts.

Nope the right one ordered, stamped and sold as 29cc.. The poor guy had been running it for a year without knowing..

Would be nice to get what you pay for sometimes.

Wonder if MED heads measure under their stamped CC.

I don't think so... But you can think that if it helps you sleep at night.

When you think about it how many people have the facility to check other peoples work.. So you trust them and take what they sell you but that dosn't mean it's what you asked for...

It's a damb site easier to make a 26cc head than a 29cc one.

I just measured my bowl head last night, and it was 31cc. A LOT of material has been removed. So, getting a 29cc head done with decent chambers must be a nightmare.

Forgotten more than most ever know

35 cc is quite possible and it still resembles the weslake chamber shape. But the chamber is DEEP.

Yes. You'll need shims under the pedestals, and the short turn radius in the valve throat would be even worse than standard. I guess it's better to get some dished pistons if going to these extremes. Especially now as this kind of pistons are readily available. Valve shrouding would be bigger as well. Agree Jukka?
I know you've made some gigantic chambers, but any downsides?
