Just used a couple of magnets to collect the swarf, befor it got anywhere near the bores. These magnets obtained from the Ford MTX75 gearboxes and bloody strong.*wink*

Must admit i did feel a little nervous*tongue*

LOL!

I had images of a crusty black&Decker electric drill being used.

Good use of what you have to hand, but I think I'd not have bothered myself?

LOL

Black and Decker. Bosch mate, nothing less.

Still, when I read that it made me think of that topic on MF with that child numpty, who thought you could mod the center main cap with an angle grinder to fit a steel strap. LMFAO!!!!

HAHAHAHAHA thats great! good solution though

we made some guides up to fit in my head that held the drill, then used the depth gauge on it to make sure my mate didnt go through too much (i was too scared to do it myself)

dont the maestro boys do this??

(stevie-when i met you at avon park back around may, i was running up the strip next to you, on that run i blew the head gasket out of the 11stud on the flywheel side)(thats a pointless story, but kind of relevent)

I think Pete aka mini1071s is doing that on one of his mad engine builds.

I had to drill my head first too. I drilled the head the tapping size of the block first then used it as a guide.

All on a 998 block too.

It 100% solved the problem of head gasket failures and was worth the effort

I did mine myself and havn't had any problems-still using std head studs.
The maestro boys use larger studs as they can't get decent ones in maestro size.

Forgotten more than most ever know

I have always drilled them with hand tools and not with such sophisticated equipment *smiley* Most of the time the studs are even at right angle to the block ... !

Does anyone know if the "competition" head stud kit from Minispares is worthwhile? My studs are rather old and it wouldn't hurt getting new ones anyway I guess.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

dont know, but the descripton doesnt match the pic!

"12 point skirted nuts.." hmm, look like normal 6 sided hex nuts with no skirt to me.

It does sound like an ARP kit though so i'm sure would do the same job.

I have that kit on mine. seem very good, you could feel that there was less streach when you torqued them down.

Min-its do the proper ARP kit for about £90 and Minispeed for £80 less VAT. Minispares don't have the ARP set.
