For a high lift cam you push them in the head further so theres more clearance between the top of the guide and the retainer at full lift

i have found over the years if you use say a 276 type cam with 1.5 rockers the retainer just catchers the oil seal and ripping it apart on the inlets, buy sitting them further down buy .5mm it misses.

9/32 is 7.31mm if thats any help. for iron guides there rarely need reaming but the bronze ones do as they swell when inserted, but personaly i prefer bronze ones as the iron ones ware out to quickly. My experience is that if you use stainless valves with bronze guides. The valves wear. If you use chrome stemmed valves and iron guides, the guides wear. As I replace guides myself, I find it cheaper to use iron guides and let the valves survive The valves and guides in the A+ heads are usually in VERY GOOD condition. I don't think I've ever binned an A+ valve due to stem wear. They're EXCELLENT in the wear department however not really up to the job in the flow. Of course back-cutting does help: Oh btw.. I bought Hogsters kit years ago :) On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

having never done this before, will the 9/32 be fine for my application, or should i look for one matched to my valve stem thickness?

i would find out the definite sixe of the stems, all the ones ive used are 9/32 stems , well the clearance reamer is anyway, standard and rimflows plus minispares race valves all seem to be of standard size. always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas |
