Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

These are from www.auto66.com

Now i assume that with my miglia and its 1293 turbo i'll be looking at class 6? Doesnt seem too bad a class to be in...

Its not a kit, replica or spaceframed car which rules out the rest.

Whats the difference between class 6 and sports libre?

I'm hoping to have a mot and tax, would this make a difference?

Class 1 Pre War and Vintage Sports Cars
Class 2 Pre War and Single Seater Cars
Class 3 Post War Saloon Cars & Post War Production Sports Cars
Class 4 Post War Single Seaters & Post War Specials and Kit Cars

Class 6 Road Modified Saloon & Sports Car 1401cc to 2000cc
Class 7 Road Modified Saloon & Sports Car over 2000cc

The problem you will find is that the Mini was never made with an engine over 1400 so it is not strictly speeking eligible for the upto 2000 class. If you intend to race in the Auto66 championship then I would advise contacting the championship coordinator and ask what class it would run in.

Sports libra is basically a catch all. It is normally the place spaceframe cars are put and hillclimb specials. Normally fast cars.

Tax and MOT will only matter if you want to enter a roadgoing class where you will have to use road tyres from list 1B in the blue book.

Ben is right class 16 it is. You might start okay in class 6 but a protest by another competitor will get you moved!

To be honest though, if you just want a bit of cheep fun then you will always get an entry. If you don't care about class and do a duel drive then you will enjoy it anyway.

Just get out there and have a good time. If you like it and want to get competitive in a class then entering a few events will give you a feel for what you might want to do a bit more seriously.

We will be at Olivers for one event next year, it will be good if you are there too.

Class 11 starting point as you probably have no back seat or headlining being an ex Miglia

Ah, meant class 11 actually *smiley*

Yeah just want a laugh to start, then if things get serious go from there.

Want to try some circuit racing if i can as well, this is just a stepping stone plus with working away i cant choose my weekends so having plenty of options is good.

What class would 998 turbo's come under then, surely they cant go in 10 as they were never production.

A 998 turbo would run in class 10.

'Production' refers to the shell and engine of the car. However, in Mod Prod, head choice and induction is not restricted. so you can stick a turbo on no problem.

In class 10 or Modified Production, you can run what tyres you want. We would run in class 10, so that should give you an idea of they mods allowed.

Just as a quick note to save confusuion in the future. Class 10 is an arbitary classification used by the Auto66 club. Each club uses a different numbering system. The name of the class (i.e. Modified Production) is how the MSA class them.

Yeah i noticed many different numbers/letters for the same class.

Printing out the application forms at dinner although the MSA website forms are for applications for 2006 licences.
I was hoping to apply now for a 2007 licence so i can get my blue book in advance.

Whilst 1071s might have had some success blagging in the SW - not enough ERAs produced to count as a production car/engine in real terms. see 12.1.2 the vehicles must have beenoriginally available through the normal commercial channels of the manufacturer in quantities of not less than 100 vehicles within 12 consecutive months.

ERA never made Minis Rover did so that is a no. 100 cars in a 12 month period I don't know that this was ever achieved as only 110 were sold between 1988-1991 in the UK (300 went to Japan) also was the ERA a homolgated car or a new mini converted after it was sold? For road going it needs to be 5000 see 11.5.2
