Well,

Finally stoped scratching my arse and started building the intake runners and plenumn!!







So far I've made up some plates to bolt to the head, 4 bits of tube from 2" solid, and modded some stub stacks to fit, have also tapered two of the tubes to go from the 39mm head ports to the 45mm stubstacks.

After that I have the injector stubs to do, then the plenum itself, drop a bottom end in the car to check it all fits ok, then crack out the welder.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot I can get done on the lathe at work during a lunch break.... plus I've lost my work keys so I can't go in early.

Well, sorry to hear you had prob's, still thats a damn good result though!!

whats the tractability like? I had always assumed that bike cams may be a bit on the hot side.

bike cams are on the whole on the soft side in relation to cars - this is pretty much the case with the BMW heads.

-very nice looking inlet manifld coming along there!

Never really been involved with bikes, just assumed a 1 literish engine reving to 8+k and puting out 100+ bananas would have pretty radical cams in it, especially if it had sod all weight to move.

Well,

dumped an old motor in on sat, droped the head on and started sizeing stuff up.

All looks ok except the regulator on the cavalier fuel rail I was intending to use will hit the bonnet, so i need to make one from scratch with a proper seperate reg.

Also you can see one of 1071's alternators on there (cheers Peter!) with toothed belts.

was gonna get a belt setup similar to that, but i couldnt get one that i could use with a trigger wheel and damper, only one or the other...

yep, thats a 36-1 cooper S damper on there.

I would have used Toms setup, but I already had all these pulleys and the damper and felt compelled to use them,

Besides S dampers are "allegedly" better.

I need to have a nother go at a sensor holder because i forgot about the radiator and as the S damper is a bit further out theres a "conflict of space"

As minor63's pics show, the cut outs are machined into the outside of the S damper, and the damper bolts onto the pulley ( as per the original cooper S)

Machining the pulley was actually pretty simple, bolt it to a indexed turntable on a mill and mill a chunk out every 10 degree's. then remove a tooth once you decide where the sensor will go.

63's pulley is a bit nicer with the square cut outs, I didn't trust works cheap mill not to grab if i had it set up verticaly, but even with my shallow crescent cut outs it still provides a good signal.

Glued the runners and injection bosses together with the TIG today,

made a proper pigs ear of it....

Was getting on fine with some practice pieces, soon as I go near the bit I don't want to cock up....

Oh well, it ain't pretty but it'll work. Luckly you can't see how shite the welding really is in the pic LOL.
