I prefer it with the silver. The black doesn't suit a Mk1. A dab of gripfill as you install the silver trim and it will never come off again.

Gripfill em on. You'll need a chisel to shift them let alone "fall off".

Silver just use four pop rivets before ans after the arch or the seam clips. IMO you will want to change it when the chrome stuff goes yellow.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I like the black trim as much as the chrome, infact i prefer the black, more subtle.

Black somehow makes it look dirty. Silver all the way.

i prefer the silver on this car. I would stick on as well. While rivets will work, they would also form a perfect rust trap

Silver for me. And if you seal the ends up the water won't get in and make it yellow

Hi all today has been one of them days,

It all started on this nice sunny Sunday when I woke up when the alarm went off at 09.00 Joanne said don’t get up yet (as this was the first time in a long time we could have a lie in together) but I said NO I need to get to the bottom of why the Mk1 is sounding like a tank and smoking more than a 16year old ASBO. So off I went and made Joanne a cup of tea, on the way back I kicked the door with No shoes on *angry* .
This is when I should have just got back in to bed.

(Just so you are up to speed, the car has been getting me down now for 4 or 5 weeks as so much has been going wrong, also this lot have stopped answering my calls
http://www.samaritans.org/?gclid=COulmIy09a0CFYsntAodrnf1uw
So last night I called my old friend Robert to ask for some help as I was one click away from EBay, 1 hr 35min later we had worked out the head had to come off.)

Anyway off I went in to the shed and got the bits I needed to open Pandora’s box, by 11.00 the head was off and pic's where sent to Robert to see what he was thinking about the whole thing. Now this is where the day took a shit. As I was convinced there was a crack in the ports to let the water in to make the steam, so Robert said as its dry decked bung up one end, Fill it with water and pump it up and see where the water is coming from.

So off I go piss about with some bits and job done then I plug the compressor in and start it up all was working fine then it Stopped Dam!! I Pissed about with it and it was dead, then I had a idea *Idea* "Foot pump" I then moved the head down on the floor and started to pump it got up to about 80 / 90 psi and POP the pump came Off!!!

Now when I filled it up I put some red coolant in so I would see it better. Anyway I now had a 85psi a high pressure jet of coolant in the Face, Eyes, Roof, Tool box most of the draws was open, Welder, EVERY Where So off I went for a sit down to calm down and think.

When I went back out to the shed the compressor was working so god knows what was going on there, so lots more jubilee clips and I got it up to 120psi and this is what I found!!!!

This is the centre port and the crack is on the top of the wall.

So it looks like I will be looking for a new head and the Mk1 is going nowhere fast, what I have learnt today is coolant in the eye hurts like F##k and stay in bed when your wife says so.

This is for the New guys "When you go Turbo, You go NO where"

Thanks simon.

Iv'e also had coolant in my eye mate, it hurts!
But not quite as much as petrol, nor quite as much as brake/clutch cleaner.
Might be a shitter dude, but you're now one step closer to having the car working now that you've found the problem.
One of my compressors also died on me the other day :/
