Yep. Straps where pointing the wrong direction, so the posts on the back plate where in the wrong place and hitting against the cover...

At least it was only something daft, it's always better when a fix doesn't cost you money! Stuff like that happens to all of us, I've put a clutch plate in backwards by mistake once and had to pull it all apart in car again :/

It still needs some meat of the lugs, but otherwise all is well again.

Well except the brake master cylinder pissing fluid out everywhere...

Putting a clutch plate in backwards rings a bell with me.

I did it when I was about 19, as an apprentice mechanic and had to pull the gearbox and re-fit everything myself - on my own time, which teaches you to check, every time, since !

Look forward to seeing this, Andy as I have only ever seen you behind the wheel of the upside down skip.

Had a really productive week.

Clutch is all sorted with a nicely flat spring (Thanks Carl) and the straps on in the right direction. :$

New brake master cylinder fitted and brakes bled (Thanks Davo). Got a nice firm pedal now which I haven't managed to get so far. *smiley*

John had a fit of usefulness and set the valve clearances.

And I've stuck one or two things on the engine.

Getting there. *smiley*

Thanks chaps.

I've got one of those Aussie rocker covers that are a bit like the MG metro one. Painted it up yesterday, just need polish up the fins and it can go on.

Got loads of piddly little jobs done over the weekend. Not much to show for it, but lots of areas of the car finished.

Decided it would be a good idea to put the FPR somewhere where the gauge was visible, so hacked about a bit of Alu that was destined for the scrap pile.

Thought it was about time I printed of the 'To Do' list and see how much I could tick off.

Assuming it runs OK, there isn't that much left on it. *smiley*

Also treated myself to a new middle box as I was sick of not being able to find anything with everything rammed into the small top box.

Been one of those days unfortunately....

Put some fuel in and turned the pump on. Got a bit of pressure on the gauge and a big puddle on the floor.

A few hours and a load of fooking about later, the entire fuel line system was replaced as one of my unions above the subframe was leaking and completely inaccessible. It's a single line from tank to fuel rail and a single line from the regulator to the return now. Much happier with that.

A bit more time was spent scratching out heads as to why there was no power getting to the starter from the relay. Dick head here had supplied the relay from the ignition position 2 circuit, which gets no power when cranking. Cock.

So we wired up a flick switch and got oil pressure, then spark, then brum. All good. Bit of blue smoke but that cleared. Then the smoke went white and was coming out from under the car. Had a quick look and saw oil coming out of the joins in the exhaust.

So to summerise, the head is fucked and it's all coming back to bits. Arse. *frown*

On a more positive note, this car will not fucking defeat me. It will see the road and soon. Also, the engine is revvy as fuck even with bores full of oil. lol
