Thanks chaps. Hoping it will be a nice comfy drive to the track where I can drive it like a loon and then cruise home again.

I've been collecting a few bits for post build upgrades, but there's no rush for them I guess...

Wonder why my clutch doesn't work...

Set it up as per the minimania guide to measure it. Can't even get it to disengage with a big bar on the drill handle. The back plate lugs are 24mm from the face of the friction surface (1" is standard) with an extra strap so it shouldn't be too far out.

I feel a trip to see Mr Austin is on the cards...

Andy, you'll never be able to excert enough force into the clutch with a pillar drill. I tried the same. My pillar drill started to deflect and still not throw out the clutch even a little, and that was with a standard clutch. You'll be struggling to exert more than 100kg never mind 200 or so with this method.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Right. I couldn't exert enough pressure with the pedal either. It went about half way then went rock hard.

I was trying to reproduce this:

From here:

http://www.minimania.com/article/153/Clutch_FAQ__non-Verto_

I've just been having another look. The straps are higher at the top of the backplate posts than the spacers on the flywheel. Could that be causing it?

Rust on the spring and the ring on the flywheel making it bind. I'm going to clean it up later and give it another go. Still needs some material of the lugs though as the spring is nothing like flat.

Plenty of little jobs left, but certainly getting there. Not going to make Avon with it, but hoping to have it on the road for August.

Now I've had it pointed out to me, it's painfully obvious what's wrong from this picture...

Close but no cigar. Had a visit from our illustrious swarf maker. Took him 15 seconds to spot it...
