Thanks for the comments,

Jim, Sorry, did you get sorted on the connectors? I couldn't find anything in my stash (No pins / sockets for the 24 way) and had been waiting for a while for a response from an ex colleague (which didn't come).

Quick trial of the 185/60 R13 rear tyre, this at nominal ride height and has just under 50mm of bump travel.

I want to avoid wide arches.

Cheers

Can't recall if you have covered it already or not, but what are your plans for the fuel tank? If standard, will it fit over the wider arch?

Hi Andy,

Because the rear axle total corner weight is going to be so light I don't want to add 34kg of fuel just to the LR as as it's getting on for a 50% increase in corner weight between full and empty just on the LH side.

Ideally I want to add a fuel cell between the inner arches, so it's lower and centralised which will mean passing over the exhaust system at some point.

Cheers

Hey Jim, what can I say, I hate putting fuel in!...

All the Minis I have had have been converted to twin tanks in the past.

Cheers James I'll PM you when I am little clearer on what I am doing with the fuel cell

Cheers

twin tanks are nice one of the better things ive done

i think that would be awsome to have the tank under the boot floor not only is there low CG but also space in the trunk for maby some golf clubs haha

looks really nice with the wider rubber where it should be in under the body not half hay out im really liking the factory look on minis now vs the down and out look

All nice and standard, just as it should be :)

I got a bit carried away.... In the interests of reminding myself what it used to look like, the boot lid will be painted along with any other carbon bits (genuine or otherwise!)

DSC_6032_zpsbpkjd2ec by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

This setup has 10mm more negative offset and lots of clearance to the radius arm

DSC_6045_zpsltuveqim by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

I still plan to try other wheel / tyre sizes but what's fitted is worst case for clearance

I should have the carbon rear parcel shelf soon to look at refitting the rear seat back

Cheers

So I collected the rear parcel shelf today

DSC_6074_zpsmjxgo7aa by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

After trimming it's just under 800 grammes, it's wider than the standard steel parcel shelf as I didn't want the gap down the side and decided on a slightly heavier ply layup which is about 1.5mm thick and pretty darned stiff as I don't want to compromise stiffness.

DSC_6088_zpslgjheoj0 by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

The centre holes are closed off and there are no other holes to provide a sealed rear bulkhead, it saves just over 1.1 Kg over the steel part.

DSC_6077_zpsiteo9vtn by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

It fits perfectly on each edge, another big driver for me to want to save weight in this area is how high it is in the car, next to the windows and window seals it one of the highest parts that I can save some weight on. I have no plans for a carbon roof and the C pillar seat belt mounts are gone already

Thanks for the comments

Turbo This, I was originally planning to use Mini 'Special' type arches in the interests of being standard. I will also try one of the Group 2 style slim arches.

I'd like to try the original aluminium Cosmic arches (which is strange as as I never liked them when they were available) but I can't find any as they are no longer made.

I thought someone was hand making them now to order, and for a very reasonable price? Tupers may be?

He may even do custom ones if you don't want them as wide.

I didnt want to say earlier but... to the above photos with the mk2 lights, mk1 bootlid and clean looks... i think the special arches wouldnt suit now.. (even tho i do love them) so the group 2's are the way to go now looking at it coming together!

I thought mini specials had the same mounting holes as gp2's?

I sold a set of cosmics not that long ago they come up for sale every now and then.

Jonny, (you probably already know but) the genuine 'special' arches have a sort of internal channel which locates on the wheel arch / sill seam and on the rear follows down into the rear valance, meaning it's not really possible to move them up the wing when you tub or change the shape of lip significantly.

I think there are numerous arches which are labelled Group 2 but the one's I was specifically referring to are like these:

GRP2_zpsclvejmrt by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

As far as I know the Cosmic's being the same in that they just fix to the flat part of the wing and don't have to exactly follow the seam below it or down toward the rear valance like the 'specials' do.

I'm still not a 100% sold on the Cosmic's, I'd need to trial fit them to see, I'd definitely paint them body colour if I did use them, they then have a sort of 60 / 70's utility look

Cheers

Yes you are correct they do have that, there isn't much choice for you then a lot of the arches seem to join into the sill.

The cosmics do fit as you have suggested :).
