Not felt so good lately so just grabbed a few hours here and there

Due to space restrictions it makes sense to get one complete side of the car done at a time and I'll turn it over when done.

I was aware that the heelboard had some corrosion where it joined the floor but I really didn't want to jig the existing heelboard in order to completely replace it.

I checked the horizontal alignment of the rear subframe mounting points to the front suspension towers and found they were within 0.1 degree, so I wanted to retain the heelboard if possible. If it had been more out of alignment I'd have probably used it as an excuse to replace.

The heelboard return has basically been replaced

Quite close now to really finishing the passenger side

I was tempted to try an reduce the size of the return to save a little weight but decided I want to keep it all standard

Cheers

Cheers Robert,

I think it sometimes seem more because of how long it takes me, especially 'bodywork'

But I've learned that it takes as long as it takes

Cheers

Cheers guys,

As has been said before it does help give you a prod to get on with it on the days you would rather walk away

Thanks for the kind words

Just a bit more tidying up done

DSC_5658PS by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

Finished the inner sill to rear quarter, the old section was rusty.

DSC_5665PS by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

Still a bit more tidying up to do

DSC_5669PS by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

The closing piece has a return which is bonded to the rear quarter to try and make it a fully closed section

Also welded the B post to the inner sill directly below it, I don't like the way the B post is left flapping in the breeze when the companion box is removed

Cheers

I was toying with getting it to paint before Christmas but...

DSC_5781 by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

It's still throwing up additional work

But it's a Mini so I guess I'd be naive to really be surprised :)

But most of the rest is looking OK

My hope is to have finished all the body at least by Christmas, the RH side should be quicker having now practised on the LH side

Cheers Callum, if it comes out anything like yours I'll be happy, just wish I could get a little more done over a weekend

Yes Robert at least it would solve the problem of trying to choose a colour! Maybe with a bit of engine turning thrown in for good measure *smiley* Unfortunately I have an ever increasing collection of parts made from this newfangled carbon fibre stuff that I've got to hide behind paint.

I decided to get a replacement rear panel to fix the rot at the base of the rear screen, it's the only way I can see of getting straight on with it rather than trying to find a section from another shell, I don't do curved repair panels...

Cheers

A reasonably productive day, the old rear panel lower half has gone, as mentioned mainly because of the rot where it joins the parcel shelf

DSC_5852 by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

It fits pretty well but took ages to get the spot welded seams cleaned up after removing the old rear panel

DSC_5862 by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

I think I'll internally stitch weld the seams as well

Cheers

Cheers Robert,

With the rear panel out of the way and the fact that I still have the inner arches to do it seemed logical to sort these out before putting the rear panel back on as the access is much better.

Fitting the new rear inner arches and tidying the existing arch lip up a little

DSC_5930 by Aubrey Boy, on Flickr

But this mockup confirms that the 'lip' shape of the two parts is at least consistent

Smaller areas are mainly 50mm Roloc abrasives on a 90 head die grinder or careful use of the a power file. Wire brush attachments to start with to get rid of most of the paint.

New rear inner arches, some of the elctrocoat was a little iffy so I linished it off:

Then get on with nailing them in place.

Thanks again Robert,

It's just so time consuming, this probably represents a days work, but at least it's another job out of the way
