Have you got a proper Jubillee clip driver, you can get the clamps much much tighter with one of these compared to a screwdriver, and the flexi shaft ones really are a godsend for awkward clips to get at (like that one looks to be).

We've done it up using a 7mm socket on a 1/4 drive ratched and have gone as tight as we dare.

clean up the housing and hose with brake cleaner, 3-4 dots of superglue on the housing, clamp the hose down, jobs a goodun :) it will come off in future, but gives that extra bit of protection for justnow, either that or procure a few mikalor clamps. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

John Sleath builds 8 second road legal drag cars. Knows turboed engines well and has years of experience with carbs.

What was your experience like at this rolling road then? From the website it looks a decent outfit. Did he do much setting up of the ignition map? How much did you pay?

Very happy with the figures. I would describe them as real world and where repeatable on several runs. In his words, it's the best rolling road available. Often people are disappointed with the figures as they don't tally with other peoples pub talk figures. I reckon we would be closer to 200 bananas on some other rollers.

He didn't need to do too much to the ignition map, as TM had already helped with that and it was pretty close already. The fueling was pretty good too. No sign of detonation. He spent a lot of time doing runs with gradually more boost listening for det before we started any changes. He charges £70 per hour + vat. He also had a couple of familiar drag cars in On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

What does the gt17 feel like compared to t3 on similar boost levels? And what sort of power would it make compared to a t3 on similar boost levels? Audi s4 b5 - 470bhp & 486ft lbs

What was your experience like at this rolling road then? From the website it looks a decent outfit. Did he do much setting up of the ignition map? How much did you pay? My opinion reflects Andy's. John asked about the car what we were looking for, what we had done, looked at our existing map (basically the one you helped me devise the other day) before starting. He strapped the car down very thoroughly. Did a couple of runs at actuator pressure ~6psi and basically told us what we already knew that it was VERY rich, however he expected this to improve as the boost was increased. We then followed with a couple of runs with 1/4 turn on the bleed valve giving us ~10psi and the fuelling looking slightly better. Another 1/4 turn and a couple of runs gave us ~13psi again showing an improvement in fuelling and another healthy increase in power. After reviewing the data from the previous runs finding the fuelling still quite rich and the fact he didn't detect any signs of detonation (he was wearing det cans throughout the process) we decided to go for more boost and took the bleed out another 1/4 turn. The runs gave us a momentary spike to 16.5psi and tailed off to 15.5psi as the rpm increased. After another quick review we decided to go for our target boost pressure and took the bleed out one final 1/4 turn. Couple of runs and a nice stable 17psi showed pretty much our final power figure. John had been watching the ignition map on the MJ and suggested that we try a little more advance at the top end of the map, this smoothed out a dip in the power and delivered a couple of extra nana's. He also made a couple of tweaks in the mid/top are of the ignition map further smoothing the delivery. We reviewed the data one final time and decided to call it a day at that. John was pleased with the fuelling (standard BCA needle) and mentioned that he believes we have a pretty decent safety margin at the top end as it richens up a touch. His suspicion was that and extra few ponies would be on the cards if we were to lean it out slightly. (he also suggested would could perhaps increase the boost slightly more without encountering any fuelling issues) Edited by John on 30th Jun, 2011. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |
