Thanks. It starts around 2 1/4" i.d. just after the join to the turbo and ends up 2" i.d. just when you want to insert a 2" o.d. middle section *smiley*

Annoyed now. We've spent ages fitting V3 turbo side of the drain, and it doesn't leak. Still loads of oil running down the back after a quick run out... Arse.

It must leak!! I had issues with mine leaking, in fact it may still be leaking but I don't car any more! Its coming out soon so I just live with it!!!

I pressure tested mine on a bench first before fitting but you only need a tiny tiny tiny hole with oil, the molecules are really small and find their way through.

But its not under pressure is it ?

Is it not more likely to be oil feed not sealing as its under 60-70 psi running ?

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

lol

The oil feed is fine. The drain is under pressure as it doesn't loose 40 - 70psi going through the core...

I think it's either the flat bit on the block not sealed or the rubber silicon hose not clamped enough. Shouldn't be a big deal to sort....

Golf. Fuck that...

I.m not sure you are right about that, Andy

If the oilfeed is via a hole about 0.125" (Mine is) then a 0.5" drain will have bugger all pressure in it.

Perhaps pressure would be the wrong word.

I dare say there would be quite a bit of flow in there however.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

It seemed to pump a lot of oil onto the garage floor when we spun it over with no drain on...

If you have 60psi say at the gallery feeding the oil feed into the turbo, that pressure doesn't just disappear when it hits the core of the turbo, there is still pressure pushing the oil down the drain. creating flow.

The drain shouldn't be under pressure, it should flow freely away. If the drain isn't vertical or nearly vertical and of a big enough diameter (12mm+) it can back up with oil end up under pressure. That's why I'm not a fan of sharp bends in the oil drains. I know a lot of guys use similar methods to you, but yours may be just restrictive enough to cause problems.

When flow increases, pressure will drop,so, yes there will be a goodly flow of oil, but under very little or no pressure, unless the flow outlet becomes restricted in any way.

My oil drain is the same basic design and I have no problems with leaks (at least not from there !)

It's all about 17mm i.d. so should be fine for flow.

Had a quick look this evening, it's just seeping from below the drain plate on the block, shout be easy enough to sort. Just seeps a bit more when you've been out for some spirited driving...

With a plate that thin I'd try a cork gasket rather than a paper one. It will seal better if the plate isn't perfectly flat or distorts when you tighten it up. Failing that I have some 8mm steel.. but I won't be back at the garage till Thursday.
